Couple of months ago the Houston Chronicle ran a pie recipe contest. I sent one in. Out of some five hundred recipes entered mine was in the top eleven published in the paper. Got my picture took and also a picture of the pie. Color picture too.
It is in the Food section of today's Houston Chronicle.
All may kneel and kiss my floury hands!

Boggy: Well done. I can see you are working yourself up to the position of ideal hunting buddy. Anyone can learn to shoot a game animal, dress it out and haul it in but the man who can bake pies in camp is worth nurturing, culturing and having around. So, what kind of pie was it and where's my slice? Is this going to be your secret recipe or will Your Highness deign to share it with his loyal followers? best.

BCR As you would say and therefore know it, "Good on you!" Baking a good pie is not an easy thing to do... talent is usually reserved for Yankees, so you must be special (ain't got a little Yank in the woodpile, do you?)
Would put my wife's pies against the best, and I have sampled my share. best to you art

Thanks guys.
Stocker, it was a vinegar pie. It lasts well but don't ship worth a hoot. If you want some come on down and I'll make us one or two. I think it was the story I told about it that got it published more than the pie its self.

Congratulations Boggy. I didn't read your post until today. Drat, the HC is hard to find around here, but I would have scrounged around and gotten a copy.
I wanna try some.......(fade to baby crying)

Boggy: I must admit you have me stumped. I know what vinegar is, I use it on my fish and chips.
But, of the few things I don't claim to know anything about (you can also include women) I must say I don't know what "a vinegar" pie is.
Do you dice "a vinegar"? Chop it, puree it or swish it in your mouth and spit it into the shell? Does it even go in a crust? What kind of a tree does it grow on or do you dig vinegars out of the ground?
I'm reconsidering my comments about the ideal hunting buddy. I had pumpkin, apple, mince and peach in mind. Is a guy who makes vinegar pie still a happy fellow or is he sour as a witch? What kind of contest was this anyhow?
Sign me befuddled in Canadia land.

Stocker it was an heirloom recipe contest. What would a furriner know about vinegar. Of course you mine it, can't beat a good vinegar mine.
If you have ever eaten lemon chess pie then vinegar pie is almost like that but not as good. It isn't bad groceries and sure beats no pie at all. Actually it tastes better than it sounds.
Vinegar pie is a very very simple recipe that was used in the old days when fresh fruit was not available and folks wanted the tang of a fruit pie.
Since there is no overwhelming clammor for the recipe if you want it pm me (if that still works) and I'll send the recipe your way. No pie though, if you want that you will either have to make it or come get some.
