I was intrigued that Ohaus had been reported as making this scale again. What I was reading on the Internets didn't seem right, so I contacted Ohaus and asked. This was their response. It suggests that if you are thinking of getting one, you'd best get off your butt.

P.S. Their office is in NJ. Please forgive the individual who answered. I won't blame the grammatical errors on a NJ education. He was either typing in a hurry or they have people in other countries answering their emails. smile

RE: OHAUS General Inquiry #OH 3971627 OHAUS General Inquiry

Hello Stephen,

Unfortunately we no longer make reloading scale. The 505 scale has been discontinued for some time now. While we was manufacturing, the scale was produce in the US.

Thanks and regards,

Yup, but Ohaus is actually making the 5-0-5 again. Wouldn’t be the first time customer service answers are exactly wrong.
It’s available for purchase on Amazon.

Ohaus isn't making the scale. The Ohaus scales were made in the US. These amazon scales are Chinese made under contract. So, he not lying. He say, "Unfortunately we no longer make reloading scale." Ohaus of NJ doesn't. Someone will have to buy one and check where it is made. Or, it could be old stock they had piled in a warehouse, collecting dust. smile

Somebody buy this!

You guys are being taken over by China then! The scales will show improper weights and you will all self destruct!

My first scale was a 505 and I used it from about ‘66 ‘til a few years ago when I started using a Lyman DPS. I bought a 1010 from my brother and have used it some as well.

You are correct but then again Ohaus quit making and repairing all scales in the US in 2015. They are just a corporate shell.
To buy an actual US made Ohaus is fantasy. Costs are too high, US made 5-0-5 would be ~300 bucks. Damn even their 10,000 dollar analytic lab scales are made in fuggin China.
Nit pick all you want. It’s the chink world we live in.

You buy it and let us know.

Bought mine in the late 70s, It's been a darn good scale all these years. I like it better than my RCBS M1000.

They certainly had a winner with the 505.

My RCBS 5-0-5 from the early 80’s has Made in USA by Ohaus etc. underneath. Great scale, I’ve also got a early 10-10 and a gifted Rangemaster or something like that digital that hasn’t seen the light of days in 7-8 years. Heck I have a Lyman 500 I will use before that digital.

I have one of these and they are Chinese knok-offs. They work fine but are in no way the same quality as the RCBS version. I regularly check them against my check weights and have determined that they give good accuracy/ repeatability. I have been using mine a couple of years.

I think, of the beam scales, only Redding and Lee are still American made.

I’m glad to hear the scale is working for you!

I think I have at least two of the 5-0-5 scales from RCBS and they were great scales. But about 15 years ago I had an opportunity to buy a 10-10 at a gunshow for a very attractive price and grabbed it. Not sure it is any more accurate but I prefer using the 10-10 over the 5-0-5 . Just seems more solid and predictable ....
