I'm currently in need of a new scope for a heavy .223. Using this rifle for informal paper punching, steel and egg shoots. I'm in need of a fine crosshair and an elevation turrets with repeatable adjustments.

Something in the 18-24x range should be sufficient. What is out there in the 500-700$ range that is reliable and repeatable?

Exactly what rifle? What are you gonna feed it? What does it feed from? Hint.

I'd go Barkin' Arken Gen2 FFP Mil and prefer the '16x to the '24x. Hint.

Rather skookum, even on a fhuqking 223 CTR. Hint.

The reticle is killer and they track, zero and repeat...with rather good erector travel. Hint.

I equipped my Savage 10 Predator .223 with the SWFA 10X. Not 18-24X, but it will serve you at the distances you can reach with the .223, and beyond.

I hear great things about the SWFA, but I need more magnification for eggs at 300 than a 10x. I should have mentioned the distance, my mistake. I'm currently running a 2-10 tract and while I love it, it's just not enough magnification.

The 10x MQ will quarter 300yd eggs, with boring regularity. Such things aren't a function solely of magnification, but reticle design as well and the 10x MQ is easily adept,at such modest wishes. Finite parallax control,do not hurt the equation either. Hint...................

I have a Nikon Monarch 3. Still new in the box. Never mounted or used, warranty replacement. It went bad and I had a prairie dog hunt coming up so I bought a new scope.

Nikon Monarch 3. 6 - 24 X 50 Matte FC. Fine crosshair. Still in factory box with all paper work.

Body failed me and I will never use it. PM me with and offer if interested.

The 10x MQ is VASTLY superior to both. Pardon my simply shooting them all. Hint...................

The MQ and Barkin' Arken have muchly superior reticles, more erector travel and better parallax control. Hint.

And the 12X, and the 3-15.

I’ve got the 4-20 Athlon Helos on a CTR I like quite a lot. Seems like a good scope for the amount it cost me. So far it’s been great dialing on the little 223 and the reticle is pretty useful as well.

Nice rig. Seems Tikka got a lot right with that set up. How do you like the OEM mags?

Summer gets busy, and your post reminds me that I've been meaning to pick up a CTR for the kids.

I don't mind the OEM magazine at all, lots of mag length for any bullet you can shoot in the 1-8" barrel. I think it could use a stronger latching spring, just to keep it a bit tighter, but I have been too lazy to change it. It just shoots well and is alot of fun to stick anyone behind

SuperKchunt,

Fortunately for you and your ilk,Imagination and Pretend are free,so even you can "afford" to "contribute"...you "lucky" kchunt. Hint. Congratulations?!?

I shoulda' been more concise, for those of you forced to "live" vicariously. 16x MQ here,on THE Baddest Mother Fhuqker On The Planet. Hint.

Do NOT "forget",that Imitation is the MOST Sincere form of Flattery. Hint.

Fhuqking LAUGHING!.................

'retzs,

On the Goodness Scale, how do the above 4-20x compare to their 2-12x? I realize the '12's reticle is proud for 300yd Egg Scrambling, but is sensational for Killing. hint.

Obliged................

I have two of the 4-20's and 2 of the 2-12's, to me, I like the 4-20's more myself, only because of what you mentioned, the 2-12 being a bit thick. Hunting wise, it'd be a wash. I put one of the 2-12's on my AR 6 ARC and love it, the second is going on my Remington UML, since it has some reach and can utilize some up and downs, but the reticle should be the cats ass for hunting as well.

So, in a long way around the tent, I like them both but the 4-20 a bit more if I am trying to shoot small. The 2-12's are as you described, hunting optics that have a perfect power range to be a near RDO up close with some X's out at further distances than I'd need.
