My wife was handed down some guns from her father who is in hospice. We are selling them with the proceeds going to her mother to help with expenses. Just laying out the facts so you know I'm looking for top reasonable dollar to help her out.
He has some good pieces, but they've been stored in a gun cabinet in Illinois, so I need to take some wood off to see about finishes. I am particularly concerned about modifications and their effect on values. Specifically, he has a Winchester 88 with an aftermarket stock (can't find original) and an Ithaca SKB 100 12 ga. 26" IC/M in good shape BUT he drilled and tapped it for scope mounts thinking he would slug hunt with it. If you just shed a tear, you can join me for the many I have over the years thinking of that gun. Anyway, any suggestions on what those changes would ding the prices of those two guns? Still researching to see what their potential is, just trying how much to deduct.
Thanks for any help, and I may have more questions on other guns as I weed through them. Those two just stick out as both desirable and imperfect.

Just read your post and know it is a tough thing to do disposing of items to pay expenses. It sounds like you have an idea that the two guns you mention do not have a lot of value. Condition means so much that without a picture, it is a crap shoot. The 88 is a nice gun but the aftermarket stock really hurts the value and will turn off most lookers. You didn't say but I would expect it is in 308 which was the most common caliber. The Ithaca took a big hit when it was drilled and tapped as you know. Being realistic, I would put these guns in an auction which will determine the real value but I would expect maybe $700 for the pair.

Ken 58 nailed it. Put them up at auction on GB for 1 cent and list them for 14 days. I think perhaps a grand for a pair. That assumes of course the rest of the gun or guns is in really nice condition, minus the mods.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. If some of those numbers are accurate, I'll likely be buying the SKB. The Winchester is a .308. For those folks that PM'd me or otherwise requested information, please be patient. It was a long week and will be a bit before I sort them out and get photos.

Create an Gunbroker account then look at the completed listings for a rough price. Drop that 10 percent then sale here.
