Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.

I'd like to say it explains a lot, but it doesn't. smile

For elk, IF I could just up and go and get an OTC tag for anywhere I wanted..it'd be different..But elk hunting isn't like that anymore.
So I hunt areas where I can get an in state OTC bull tag, there's little or no hunter pressure*( wilderness-walk in) and learn the country well with all it's difficulties and challenges.

Due to those criteria, and distances,I end up in rugged, roadless steep, wet inhospitable country on Oregon's wetside..:)

Won't see herds of Roosevelt elk any bigger than maybe 40, but they live there year round and can be found and hunted if a fellow has the energy and willingness to get in there and find 'em..:) Unlees pushed hard, they may not go 500 yards from bed to breakfast..Water is abundant as is food and cover..Compared to their RM cousins, they are fat and lazy..:)Jim

I used to enjoy hunting high country. When I was younger I enjoyed hunts in Montana, New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado's western slope.
Now that I am past 60 and living near sea level it is difficult to stay in good enough condition to really enjoy it. I now look forward to the north woods/agricultural fringe of Alberta, or rolling high plains of eastern Colorado or west Texas.

Or practically anywhere there is a good chance for seeing mature game.

For elk, I'm with Brad. Darn horses are too fat anyways, they might as well spend a bit of the fall up high before I start feeding them every morning. For moose it's of course as close to the truck as possible, been there done that, thank you very much. For deer, right across the yard by the purple diesel tank will be just fine, since they ate the wife's garden all summer anyways. grin

BC is a great place to hunt...but so are alot of other places. Hard to beat the whitetail hunting in Sask. or the prairie mule deer of Alberta. They are all fun to experience.

I don't like flat country, anywhere east of about Hinton makes me feel depressed, lost and kinda wondering what I am doing there...I once spent THREE months on a course in Oddawa, ghastly place, flat, humid, no wilderness and CARP everywhere PLUS politicians....YUK!!!!

Besides, we HAVE deer in BC, Whitetails, Mulies, Columbia Blacktails, Sitka Blacktails and wild Fallow Deer, plus RM Bighorns, Cali. Bighorns, Stone's Sheep, Dall's Sheep and on and on....nah, BC is IT!!!!!

But, everyone should be happy to hunt Alberta and that other FLAT place called "Saskawhatchamcallit" smile smile smile

BC does have a great range of species...and I have hunted there for mule deer up near Fort St-johns on the breaks of the Peace River...It was a great hunt!

But hunting Sask every year for whitetails is a tonne of fun, lots of mixed bush and hay/farmland...we see a good number of very big bucks. Every year we have seen deer that I am sure would hit the book and knowing that they are there is thrilling.

I am hoping to get back to BC though some day to hunt elk and mule deer...you do have some good ones. smile

Some hardwood ridges or saddles. Swampy wet areas with some hemlock.

there are two type of terrain that I love to hunt. The first, and my favorite, is a good swamp, or along the feeder/drain creeks that go along with them.
I prefer to still hunt alone. It might take me an hour to walk a mile, but I won't miss anything along the way. After some 50 years of doing this, my wood craft skills are up to it.
A good lever gun is my choice for these areas.
Second choice is hunting from a tree stand over looking a clear cut, or a hay field.
I am lucky in that I can hunt both of these totally different terrains at the same farm, less than 15 miles from home, as well as two other farms close by.
