Nice! Have ya shot it yet? I have the Ruger #1, and it shoots very well. Hope you like it. Great cartridge!

shootist, Yes I have shot it a bunch since I got it back in 2001. I am getting 2 in. or better groups @ 100 yds since I got it back from Fred Zeglin at Z-HAT. Before I had Fred work on it the best I could do with the factory sights was 4 in. or bigger groups @ 100 yds.AMRA

The best groups I got with mine with the factory irons were with the 300 gr Barnes XFB. Three shots through the same elongated hole at 50 metres. When I put the Leupy VXII on it, I could see better, and the groups were VERY nice at 100 yards, and it shoots real sweet off hand. Put three off hand into a little over 2 and a half inches at 100 yards.
Your rifle looks real nice. Enjoy. You could try some of the Barnes X. I think your rifle has a detachable box mag, n'est-ce pas?

Thanks guys, My 1895 405 WCF is my pride and joy. I got it back in 2001 or so when Winchester first offered them. I shot it as is for the first few years but knew My old eyes needed better sights on it. Then I started reading Dave Scovill`s articles on Fred Zeglin and his Z-HAT gunshop and called Mr. Zeglin and talked with him about my 405 WCF. He is a super nice guy to talk guns with and I sent him my 1895 and got it back about 7 weeks later. I am very pleased with how it turned out and would do business with Fred again in a instant. Fred installed the recoil pad to my length of pull, mounted the NECG adjustable rear express sight along with the NECG Universal ramp adjustable front sight with the 3/32 ivory bead. He also deburred the extractor that was damaging brass Modified two springs, corrected mainspring assembly. Finished in Robar Ind NP3 shootest, the mag box is not detachable on my 1895, but the one on my stainless Browning BLR 270 WSM is.

Sorry, but it is a box mag, right? So you can use spitzer type bullets. Give them Barnes XFB's a try. Mine loves them!

My dad always liked the 1895, so I went ahead and broke the Bank for his Christmas gift. 1895 in 405WCF takedown model with the colorcase hardening. Unfortunately he never got a chance to use it. But at least he got a chance to sit in his chair and admire it. I'm gonna due my best to break it in right this coming season for him.

AMRA,
Thanks for posting those pics. I know this is an older thread, but thought it deserved to be brought back to the top for those who didn't see it the first time. I'm currently having a "405 obsession" and this didn't help me at all..(=
