I recently purchased a very early Dakota model 76 that will not eject. Does anyone have any simple fixes for this with sending the rifle back to Sturgis?

I dont have a solution, but might want to make sure Park West will work on a Dakota now that Dakota is no more.

I don’t have a solution either but it seems like it would be an easy fix for a smith. Congrats on a beautiful rifle.

With the bolt fully retracted, can you see the ejector blade protruding through the slot in the bolt face?

Thanks for the response, the rifle is at another location. I will check and post in the next few days.

Agreed. But man their rifles don’t look too bad nowadays.

I finally made it to my other place where the Dakota is. Yes, the blade is protruding about 1/8 inch. See pic

Ok, the ejector seems to be in the right position to eject the case.

Can you tell if the claw extractor is losing it's grip on the case too early in the cycle?

If the front of the extractor claw looks unmodified and isn't worn or broken, then I'm thinking the extractor needs a little tuning, which is easy to do. Basically just bending it in/out to achieve the right release timing.

But since Dakota parts are likely hard to get, I'd have a good gunsmith (with M70 expertise) tune it.

The extractor holds the case firmly throughout the bolt cycle. I spoke with Parkwest and they will look at it, just didn’t really want to deal with shipping.
