I've got a few good pump guns scattered around. But I've never played around with semi auto shotguns much. I'm interested in a defensive tool,...high capacity.
So I decided to poll the readership here and see what everybody thinks. The higher capacity the better, but most importantly, I want one that will go *BANG* every time I pull the trigger.
Also, I'd like some opinions on gas operated vs. recoil operated.
Thanks in advance for the responses. I'll be reading what everybody has to say.

Hard to go wrong with a Benelli M2. Plenty of aftermarket support for them as well for things such as mag tube extensions.

My Benelli M1 is the most reliable shotgun I've ever owned. That includes pumps and doubles. The newer M2 is basically the same gun with minor upgrades.
Recoil operated is lighter and will keep working longer before it needs to be cleaned. Recoil is a little worse compared to a gas gun, but that is partly because a gas gun is going to be heavier. But recoil isn't any worse than a pump or double of the same weight. Gas guns do reduce recoil. Gas guns with barrels on the shorter end of the spectrum (26" or less) are less reliable, especially with light loads.
Mag capacity of the M1 or M2 is only 3+1 even with the plug out compared to 4+1 with most guns. But extended mag tubes are available.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

My 1187 has killed a schitload of ducks, in saltwater marshes as well as fresh. Gets cleaned once a year.

Also, I'd like some opinions on gas operated vs. recoil operated. Forget recoil... Gas for sure. Bought Laura a Browning Maxus (some gas metering inertia whatever). Bottomline... recoil is mild as a kitten. Same stuff on the Benelli and others. 930s do not have this setup... but it's not like a 12 gauge has much recoil anyway.

Benelli or Beretta.
Talking to a local dealer that sells a lot of the Turkish imports he said that for the money it’s hard to go wrong with it. He said the company bought the tooling for the M1 and manufacture the “Benelli” M1 with Turkish metal and alloy. I’m going to be putting one through its paces in the near future.

Benelli for the win, bought my first in 1991, a M1 Super 90. The thing has eaten everything and killed a ton of game since then. The collection has increased since , both my boys are shooting M2s. For your use, a M2 Tactical or for a few more dollars, the M4.

Really like my Beretta 390. If the safety was on the rear of the trigger guard and the follower wasn't designed to rip your thumb open it would be perfect.
PS I'd have a bitch about any gun. Haven found a perfect one yet.

The Beretta 1301 Tactical sure is making waves, especially if you pony up for the Langdon version.
