My AR won't eat the steel stuff either. I just fire it in my Savage 110.

Leave a semi auto set loaded for 20 yrs and you'll likely have a Single Shot... They need Regular Exercise and Maintenance... Why I like bolts, Levers and Revolvers...

There are plenty of stories of ak's being buried for various lengths of time and they work like new. Probably won't head shoot someone reliably at 150 yards but they go bang every time. Loaded, unloaded, setting in mud, setting in grit, cleaned, not cleaned. They don't mind mind having half a sandwich dropped in the open action during it's once a decade cleaning and they don't care if you leave it in there forever.

LOL.
I imagine more elephants are taken in Africa by poachers armed with AK-47’s, if the real truth were known.
The numbers of elephants taken by white hunters with a a bolt action or double rifles in todays world are probably insignificant compared to the damage poachers do.

Sublime accuracy potential at no extra cost.
And they do jam at times but easy To field strip

I tried several Mini-14’s in the 1980’s trying to find one accurate enough and reliable enough for coyotes and varmint control. Never found one that was accurate or reliable. Finally bought my first AR-15 in the early 1990’s and never looked back.

And while the AR-15 is not quite as reliable as a AK-47, I’d still take an AR any day, and twice on Sunday.
Because most AK’s I owned sucked for accuracy.

Colt 6920, Bravo Company REECE, DDM4V7, or Sig MCX would be more inline what I would choose for a defensive carbine than many of the responses in this thread. I would recommend that you (as well as many others in this thread making ridiculous suggestions) take a defensive carbine course. Good choices will seem obvious after a bit of training.
