Warm evening at the end of August. Glass of Woodford to celebrate the end of a long, hot, hard day. Three cicadas are buzzing in the big trees nearby.
Watching the hummingbird youngsters chase each other. One took after a chickadee for a while. Look like they both enjoyed the chase through the crab apple branches.
The hummers will soon start their long trip south but are putting on a show until then.
It was 103° F. here today. Now down to a pleasant 98° F. The weather dudes say it will be in the 100s through Sunday. It snowed here on June 1st so I guess everything is just balancing out, so to speak.
Central air conditioning comes in mighty handy.

Aspens and willows along the mountain creeks are starting to turn yellow, had a little snow on the Tetons a few nights ago. Only about 60 days now before we hit the road to Yuma for the winter.
Maples are starting to turn here, locust turning brown and losing their leaves. Cool night again tonight.
Garden is cleared off and I have some late season kale planted. I love this time coming up all the way through February of the next year. About the only time that disappoints me is late winter, early spring, I want to get that garden in.
Another high of only 75 here today and 2 more inches of rain in N TX. Just enough to screw up opening day of Dove Season on Thursday. 😡
We had 2.5” yesterday too. High was also 75.
Damn sure was nice to get a break from out over 100 days of 100 + degrees.
I remember back in 2011, opening day of Archery Season, October 1st, it was 102. 🤪
I’m hopeful we’ll have some real fall weather this year for a change. 🤠

Been over 100 here almost every day since July 4th. Now it gets hot here in the valley but this is insane. We are praying for it to end. It wears on a body to no end.
I’ve been hearing upland sandpipers passing overhead, down from the Northern Plains en route to Argentina. Saw my first ruby-throat hummingbird passing through too.
Highs are only in the 90’s now, the sun perceptibly less intense.
