I picked up a rifle yesterday that I know I over paid for, It is a Ruger M77 MKII that is a 204 Ruger Varmint (with the laminated stock and funky grey coating over the stainless steel).
I gave him $1000 because it is in nearly perfect condition and have not been made for years, also because it appears to be twice the rifle of my Ruger American Rifle in the same chambering confused

That's the Ruger Target model you bought. I don't think you overpaid. Nice!

A little over priced, but probably a pretty accurate rifle. Most were.

Boat’
If it is worth it to you then you didn’t over pay. Some things you just have to grab. Nice rifle.

that was a fare price and a great rifle and cartridge , i still think the 204 Ruger cartridge is one of the best cartridge designs in the last 20 some years

You know, I just got back from the beach with my bride. She seems to have no issue throwing around 100 bills there……so if you gonna toss out an “extra” few buck, rifles is to a bad place.

Only when you go to sell it, will that matter...and by that time, it likely won't matter. If you find yourself doing this.

Rebarrel a 223 on anything ya want.... if ya had the rifle, it would run ya less...

I did that , but did it in a 20 Practical instead...

The only time "you over paid" is if you try to sell it. If you like it and use it, you paid the right price.

Boatanchor: I was early on to the 204 Ruger bandwagon!
In 2,004 I bought a new Ruger 77 Varmint/Target in 204 Ruger - I put a quality 6 to 24 power variable scope on it and headed for the range with some 32 grain factory ammo.
I was so pleased, immediately, with the accuracy, lack of recoil and flat trajectoryof this set-up!
First group (5 shots at 100 yards) after barrel breakin-in measured .612".
Next group (5 shots at 100 yards) measured .530"!
Then after accumulating much brass from the factory brass I began handloading the wonderful 35 grain Berger hollow-points.
Best sight-in verification/load testing group (5 shots at 100 yards) with the Bergers, to date, is .374"!
I was so impressed with that Rifles performance that a few years later I came across a "good deal" on another Ruger 77 Varmint/Target in 204 Ruger and bought it as well.
I mounted a Leupold 6.5x20 variable scope on it and again bought and shot a bunch of Hornady factory 32 grain V-Max bullets through it.
This time I was stunned by the accuracy obtained with this all stock factory Rifle shooting factory ammunition and even more impressed with my handloads.
I hope your Ruger 77 Varmint/Target shoots as well as mine do!
I own and shoot 10 (ten) heavy barrel Rifles in caliber 204 Ruger (Remington 700 VLS's, Remington XR-110's, Ruger #1-V's, H&R Handi-Rifle and the Ruger 77's) and the only 204 Ruger Rifles of mine that "bests" the Ruger 77's accuracy are my XR-100's.
Again best of luck to with the Ruger 77.
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
