I know someone had a formula about how much Ivermectin to give dogs, rather than the expensive heart worm medicine each month.
I assume you can give the the Ivermectin injectable orally?
What is the CC's per weight ratio?
I know I've seen that here, but can't find it...
Thanks!

I give mine 1cc per 100lb. of dog. 50lb. dog gets 1/2cc. I use sausage or such and inject it then feed it to them.

.1cc per every 10lb of body weight. It’s not much, only a half a cc for a 50 lb dog. Some people dilute it to make the dosing easier. I charge a syringe then take the needle off, open their mouth and squirt it in the back of their mouth. They don’t act like it tastes very good so I try to get it as far back as possible.

Yep, a tenth per ten pounds was the standard dosage forever. Vets have backed off that amount in recent years as it’s a massive overdose, and not necessary. That amount doesn’t harm the dog at all, it’s just a waste of Ivomec. My 65 pound lab gets about .3 cc’s each month and does fine. Yes it tastes horrible. Wife and I took it durning the Covid scare weekly and I dreaded it. It didn’t matter how far back in my throat I’d shoot it, I’d still taste that awful concoction. The aftertaste would hang with you for a good while also.

I give it to my beagles and have for years. I inject it and give orally. The bottle I have says 1 ml. per 75 pound body weight on hogs so I usually give them around 30 ml. since none of them are over 25 pounds. I do it once a month.

Thanks! www.heartwormprevention.comThanks I see that solution is .05% vs the Ivermectin injectable at 1% sold for veterinary use. Looks like about the same dosage calculation though.

It's not considered safe for collie and shepherd type dogs.

No worries here. Pure schnauzers. 4 Giant Schnauzers, and one Standard Schnauzer. (I recently added 2 new pups that were needing a home) I think I have enough for awhile.

Does anyone actually get their dogs tested for heartworm?

Does anyone actually get their dogs tested for heartworm? It's apparently an extremely rare condition, and almost unseen in the northern states.

Does anyone actually get their dogs tested for heartworm? I did initially. If you get a dog that you are uncertain as to whether it's had prevention before, especially in high mosquito areas, it's a good idea. I don't pay to get new pups tested, or the dogs I've had on heart worm meds. I also use mosquito stuff on them when they are out biting. Been pretty dry this year, and not seen but a few mosquitoes.
