By bullheads - hurt, but nothing like that.

Yup, decent sized hornpout got me when was 4 or 5. Grandfather squeezed the little wound, packed it in mud and the burning/swelling only lasted a half hour or so.
Made an impression. Never made the mistake of picking one up the same way again.

Stepped on one out fishing at the Skyway Bridge one night. Went up through my shoe. Yeah that was a barrel of monkeys.

One got me when I was fifteen. I fried him and ate him, and have done the same to several of his kin since. Once is enough, you learn from it.

Finned maybe.
Didn't know catfish had horns. Are they horny in your neck of the woods?
I know you don't want to get finned by a saltwater hardhead.... Boarmaster is right, it'll ruin your day.

One time by a "Gaff Top" (aka Hard Head) saltwater catfish and it will peg out your fun meter. Learned a lesson there.

My grandpa had one drive the fin right up into the web of his hand while getting the hook out. This was when he was about 80 or so. He snipped it off with wire cutters and went back to fishing. Had to go to the ER afterwards and get it cut out. The fin sat on the dining room shelf for several years after that.
Now with even more aplomb

I had a great registered bull die from a catfish fin a little about a year ago... 100% true story. Had flooding come through the pasture over 2-3 feet deep. Shorted my pond aerator system out where my catfish were. Before I could get the system working again, all the catfish went tits up. Buzzards feasted for days, as there were hundreds of catfish dead that were 15 to 35 pounds. After the bones were picked clean, we went around and picked up all the bones we could. But the cattle would get in the water when it was hot, and that bull got a fin deep in his soft portion of his hoof, and it broke off. Got infected, and lamed him up. He ended up dying from it, despite over a $1000 veterinarian bill to save him. Fuggin' $5000 catfish fin.

Freshwater cats only hurt pussies. Salt water cats are another story, particularly the Gaff Top Sail Cats. They will make you talk to Jesus.
I am..........disturbed.

Nope... Knew enough to grab from the head and slide your hand back to pin the 3 fins. Came close a couple of times. Then I grew soft and got a right handed barb wire glove to handle the fugging things.
Next door neighbor in senior NCO housingloved getting 15 to 35 pd blues from me back in the day.
Hey your more than welcome to them old catfish fulla heavy metals and dioxins and schit.🤣🤣🤣
His last name was Montcalm. Claimed to be related to french general from the french and Indian war. Whether true or not. Just giving them old azz blues to a Frenchman to eat made it special in my mind. I didn't eat catfish back then either. Let smaller ones go. The supposed good eating ones... Just enjoyed fishing for them Jan thru early march on the Cumberland for something to do.
👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣

Yes, compared to Gaff Top saltwater catfish all other catfish pale in comparison.
Don't let the spike in the pectoral fin fool you, it will draw blood.
It will only take one time to make you a believer.

Not me, but a friend of mine. He was maybe 13 or so, wearing only thin rubber "tingley" boots. Caught a catfish, got the brilliant idea to stomp it to death. Catfish got him good, punctured his foot like a nail!! Last time I went fishing with him he was probably in his low 20's, and refused to touch a catfish! When he caught 1 somebody else had to unhook it for him!
