All one needs to do is spend about 1/2 a day with a good dog in the field - upland or ducks and you'll understand they're wicked smart and could replace 1/2 the posters here.

It’s amazing how smart dogs are when motivated to learn.

When a dog places in a spelling bee somewhere, then I will think more of their intelligence, until then, they like all dogs, cats and horses are animals...

Holy crap. That's ape level intelligence, pushing the chair over to the counter. That means the dog had to visualize where he wanted the chair positioned, and what it would do for him in that position, in advance. Amazing.

The dog was trained to do that.
There's a treat inside the oven, and it was trained how to get to the treat.

Smart dog! Yeah, I think trained as well. I've not seen one that could "reason" it's way through that.

My Drahthaar did something like that, I had a small cup of sausage fat on the back of the over, so he couldn’t reach it from the front.
But there is a window to the dining room at the back of the stove, so the little [bleep] pushed a chair over to the window and stood on it to lap up all the pork sausage fat.
Smart bugger.

Smart dog! Yeah, I think trained as well. I've not seen one that could "reason" it's way through that. They've done studies for reasoning ability with dogs, and they have been found not to have that ability to the degree illustrated in the video. Even when something like that was demonstrated to them by another trained dog over and over, they never learn by seeing it done. Wolves, however, can. A wolf can be placed in a room with food out of reach, for example, and even though they cannot figure out how to solve the puzzle to get it, if they see a trained dog do it first, they can then learn by merely seeing it done. Not dogs, though, which makes the video above suspect. Like I said, what was illustrated in the video is ape level reasoning, which would make it quite amazing if a dog did it.

Our standard schnauzer could look at whichever key fob and go sit by that vehicle. We lost him to cancer at five. Still breaking my heart. He was such a wonderful buddy

Now if he'd only close the oven door and push the chair back...

Smart dog! It's owner was a dumbazz, this was posted by the dogs owner along with the video on YouTube. I had made a filet roast. We were in the other room. I was looking at my friend his jaw was wide open. He says dude your dog is in the oven. I ran into the kitchen. Lucy was on the large oven door , chowing down on our dinner. So a few weeks later I was cleaning out the freezer found some old chicken nuggets.
I had decided to set up Lucy.
I set up the camera on a tripod pointing at the small toaster oven. I put the chicken nuggets in the oven turned the oven on for 12 minutes and left for the grocery store. 40 minutes later , I came home with pan on the floor.
