Well, I decided to take advantage of what will likely be one of the last warm days of the year to take a couple of the Savages and my Henry 327 out to play. I recently bought an 8 pounder of N130 to try as an alternate for the unobtanium H4198 in the 300, and threw together a few 303 rounds with it too just for giggles since I had it out on the bench. The loads still need a bit of fine tuning, but I was pretty pleased for initial throw together groups. 130 TTSX load in the 300 140 Monoflex in the 303 125 TNT through the 300 The rust issue on the Marbles tang sights I'd mentioned in another thread. 1948 EG 300 I neglected to take any pics of the 303 today. Shot some video, but I don't upload them to YouTube or anything. 🤷♂️

Thanks, the old 303 isn't a real pretty rifle, but it's a sweet shooter. It's really partial to IMR4320, but I don't have that much left. I've been able to work up equivalent accuracy loads with other powders with some other bullets, but so far one has eluded me with those 140 grainers. I'm hoping this N130 may be the ticket. We'll see after I do some fiddling. Just for reference, this is a 5 shot group of the same bullet with 4320 at the same distance.

Thanks, but it's the rifles more than me. 🙂 I'm not a particularly good shot, especially in the field. 100-125 yards is about my limit when I'm out hunting... 200 or so when I'm just punching paper or dinging steel.

Thanks for the report. Nothing as soul-satisfying as a good day at the range.
Three weeks after my cataract surgery, my restrictions are lifting and I'm itching for some trigger time myself.

I worked a ton of OT from late July up through about a week ago, so I hadn't gotten much fishing or trigger time the past couple months. I saw the forecast was good yesterday so I said fugg it and took a vaca day to do some shooting and get a few other things I'd been neglecting done.
Don't wanna go jinxing anything by blabbing much before things are actually in my hands, but I'm hoping to have another lever action range day post next week. 😁 Now that I've said that, it will rain and/or snow every day next week, or or the mail truck will drive off a cliff somewhere 😏

gnoahhh, I had cataract surgery last year. It takes awhile to get use to the new vision system. Wait a few months before getting your eyes tested for glasses. My eyes kept changing for a couple of months post surgery as my corneas healed. I was left slightly far sighted and with a slight astigmatism that the progressive reading glasses corrected. I use them for shooting and driving and reading, I don't believe how well I can see. For Everyday stuff, I am find without glasses unless I am trying to read a label or use Iron Sights. The glasses really crisp up the front blade for target shooting. Any with glasses and a 9X power scope I can see bullet holes at 100 yards. It takes time. Good Luck
