Anyone know the size and thread pitch for the screws that hold the Lyman 54 onto the bolt of the model 20?

I agree with the #8-40, that's what I think was in the 1920/26 I worked on... but with the early 1920's that had the sight put on later, the size might depend on just which thread pitch #8 tap & screws were at hand when they mounted it. I did find that the head size is important, you need a fairly short head to fit under the slide and to fit flush on the other side - both the same.

Hello mad dog, did you end up figuring what screw size to use for mounting the Lyman #54. I have two on my rifle's and want to replace one base with a newer one that I picked up.
I have to drill the old one out because head is stripped.
