We were over to WI a few weekends back and got Jack's stand put back up. Still need to put the camo around it to hid the fidgeting. The county cleared some timber out and made it a great looking spot.
On Sunday I couldn't sleep. I got up early and thought I'd take a drive to a place I hunted and fished as a kid. I ended up chasing some grouse up by TJAY's camp. Even found a cow moose that popped out to say hello.
That's what I told him. If you're not going to sit in it I will. You're looking from north to south as the stand. There is 200 yds to shoot to the north, 300 to the south and anywhere from 50-150 to the west. The west is really thick pine/spruce mix probably 10 year old growth.
It used to be really thick. The county started logging it this time last year and it was still active during the deer season. So, we pulled it down. When we went back out we loaded his stand in the truck just in case. I'm glad we did. They did such a nice job cleaning it up you can actually drive a truck to that stand. Usually they leave a hellova mess there.
So a year ago my wife and I made an offer on some land to use for hunting and generate some money through grazing cattle. We're putting the 30 acres of crop land into crp because it's not enough to mess with for growing crops or renting out to a neighbor. We're planning on building on 10 acres of it and then grazing the other 120 that's dedicated range land. It has been badly overgrazed prior to us buying it so we rested it this summer. We're planning on planting a thousand trees and shrubs or so for habitat and wind protection. Puting in a few food plots for pheasants and deer next spring, along with reseeding some highly disturbed areas to native grass/forbs. We put in a waterline and 4 winter waterers that are resistant to freezing. We're excited but it's been a lot of work and expense so far. We're about to wrap up the first mile of fence and only have about 3 more miles to put in. Glad I have a strong boy to pound posts! Hopefully we get some deer off it this fall. I'll post pics when I can of the progress. Stay tuned!
That's awesome Ryan! Happy for you guys! 4 miles of pounding fence posts? Yikes. I did enough for 300 feet of snow fence on Saturday and am doing another 100 feet this Friday. That is way more than enough pounding for me! lol
Did you ever get that boat done? Doesn't sound like you have had a whole lot of time for extracurricular activities!

Boat project was put on hold as you can imagine. It's still gutted on the inside but I rebuilt the transom and painted her. Hopefully I can work on it this winter, need to pour foam before I rebuild. Fence has to come first though

There was actually a shortage on the foam last year. The plant in TX had a fire.

I’ve seen it rooster, he’s doing a nice job.
I have no doubts about that.

Out with my youngest for the youth season yesterday. The best part is seeing the excitement in a ten year old!! Does around, but he's actually showing some patience. We'll see how the weekend goes.
Built almost half mile of fence today. These boys look tired! I haven't even had supper yet and they're asking if they can go to bed. I worked circles around em the first half of the day. Second half they impressed me
