I’m looking for a place to bring my oldest boy for his first deer hunt next year. My boy has hunted small game and turkeys, and he’s ready for something bigger. He will be 8 or 9 depending on where the season falls. Due to work limitations I can’t hunt the second half of November or most of December.
I would like for my wife, my boy and myself all to have an option to fill a tag at a reasonable price and enjoy ourselves. I know nothing about Texas (never been) and will be traveling from NV.

Forgot to mention this is for the 2023 season. If TX isn’t a good destination, where should I be looking? All my neighboring states don’t allow a youth to hunt at 8 or 9 years old for deer.

Might check out this forum. https://texashuntingforum.com/They have places on there for day hunts/leases...etc. Usually if they post over there, they are pretty good to do business with.

Would you consider Oklahoma? I know a hunting service. They basically put you and the kid on a stand. You make the call on what to shoot. Free range deer, hogs, turkeys and squirrels. Oklahoma "Gun Season" traditionally opens the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
The wife also hunts, so taking your wife and the kid out wouldn't be a problem.

An 8yo kid isn’t going to hunt deer. They might shoot one.

You might want to contact Muley Mike McKinney of West Texas Hunts. He has a good website and Mike is well known as a straight arrow. He has multiple ranches and can arrange what you’re looking for. I’ve found his prices very reasonable. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

I looked into Oklahoma and have contacts there, but the rifle season runs during a time that I can’t travel. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Reasonable, Texas, hunting don’t go together too well. Way overpriced Not necessarily. You can do MLD doe hunts clear into Feb and you can get them for $150 per doe if you shop around especially for a youth. Toss in a hog or two and a youngster can have a good hunt without breaking the bank. To the OP: Someone already mentioned the Texas Hunting Forum. They have a guides/outfitter forum. Register for that site and post what you are looking for there. People will have what you are looking for especially if you'll be happy shooting some does and not bucks.

This is probably the dumbest comment I have ever seen. Why is trying to take a youth hunting bad? Seriously you really need to do some self evaluation.

Hey, some people prefer venison over salamander.

Eight year old in the deer blind. “Shoot ‘em now son. Ok time to go home.” LOL Gimme a fugking break. I will admit that does get a little ridiculous. Then pat the kid on the back and tell them what a great hunter they are. Kid says WTH. I'd rather be home watching cartoons on TV. Sitting in deer stands being quite and still has turned thousands of kids against hunting deer.
