my heart doctor prescribed farxiga and it's costing me about $500/90 days.

is this a miracle drug or something ?

New enough that there’s no generic available.

Sounds like one of the side effects is a light wallet.

Seriously, if you take it long enough you WILL experience side effects. That's a value proposition that only you can make. But I'd explore all non-med alternatives first.

I was on it until my insurance stopped covering it. Kinda glad. I saw a commercial which stated in rare cases caused genital gangrene.

Since my unfortunate episode with DVT's I'm on Xarelto. Unless things have changed very recently, it's $1,000 per month.

I’m on Forxiga for the last couple of years. Prescribed by diabetes Doc, here in Canada.
I’m covered for this by 2 or 3 insurances, so can’t comment on the cost.

Makes me pee for about an hour or so after taking. As if I didn’t know how to do that, ha.
Doc explained that it was good for flushing excess sugars , kind of like frequent urination with hyperglycaemia. All a juggling act, I think.

my daughter sells the stuff, and swears it's a miracle product. I just won't spend that kind of money for what I see as a maybe drug so far as my condition goes.

Sort of. If you’ve both diabetes and heart failure, it’s a no-brainer. Cost being cost, however, vs. “x” abstract benefit, that’s a personal decision. Perfectly fair to ask your cardiologist what alternative at lower cost would be reasonable.

If only for diabetes, then no, don’t care for the drug. Without knowing your hx, would still bet there are a few ways to target without spending 500/mo more, assuming decent rx coverage.

But hey, it’s the campfire… someone will have some chicken bones and brick dust along shortly, their neighbor read it on google.md, study done in India, yadayada.

I think they outlawed that a long time ago. When I was growing up, we never bought meds. My father just brought home samples, but he stopped getting those samples several years before he retired from practicing medicine.

They were discovered accidentally. Eases heart failure symptoms by lowering the total volume of blood your heart needs to pump. Kind of like what Furosemide already does for nearly no cost.
