Anyone here running a 6.5 PRC barrel on their Encore setup? I'm contemplating ordering one from MGM. Any advice from people with experience would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Can’t get much better than that IMO

I’d probably go 25 or 26”

I would also get a hanger bar from Stratton custom and have his convert your forearm for the hanger bar

I was thinking of the exact same build

What does Stratton charge for the hangar bar conversion?

I have been emailing MGM for a couple weeks, right now I'm leaning toward a 25in 6.5 PRC in matte moly, threaded with a 20 MOA base. And since everything is sky high I can't get a forearm to match my current muzzy combo they reccomended going with the muzzleloader contour and the muzzleloader offsets so I dont have to overpay for a new forearm.

Placed my order they recommend a 22-24 in barrel so I went with 24 figure I"m not going to lose much over 1in and they seem to know what they are doing, Now the waiting game starts wonder which one gets here first the brass or the barrel.

A 24'' bbl on an Encore is not too long. Did you have it threaded?

No need to send the barrels

I mailed him 3 forearms last week for conversion with notes on each forearm of the barrel contours I have. All 3 were different. 1 full bull, 1 .810" and 1 .725".

The owner emailed me this week, that they will take about 3 weeks to complete.

That's good info, thanks.

Yes I had the barrel threaded, and now I got the last chance to change your order, i might go back to the original plan of 25 inches.

My inclination would be to go with a longer barrel but I haven’t fooled around with an encore in over a decade.

I went with the .850 muzzleloader contour more so out of convince since I am not willing to pay the prices for a matching older hardwoods rifle forearm. But in my many emails with MGM they did advise going with a muzzleloader or full bull to tame recoil.

Fingers crossed, the only person I have gotten any feedback from that owns a 6.5 PRC by MGM said he is currently on barrel 3 from them he sent the 2 previous back to them. 1st barrel had bad chamber cut in it, 2nd barrel he said was showing cracked lands and grooves and accuracy went out the window at 190 rounds. He said they replaced the barrel under warranty and even upgraded him to stainless for the 3rd barrel He say that the barrels showed real promise but he had slowed down on it due to lack of components and the bad luck with the first two barrels.

Found this thread and, although it is old, decided to respond. I am a big fan of MGM. I have several of their barrels and each has been a tack driver. My last one was a 6.5 PRC. Having to use factory loads as I have not been able to put in the time for working up reloads. I mostly hunt with my Encores and use only MGM barrels now.

Just sent my 300 Win Mag barrel back to them for a muzzle brake installation. Actually, I never found the recoil without a brake to be much of an issue. But, my busted back and neck issues are beginning to make me pay for the fun. I talked to Andy at MGM who recommended their new brake with the 6 holes. Should have it back in another week. Reallly anxious to get it back.

There was no greater freedom than when I would leave Holiday Park Fish Camp heading my airboat west toward the Big Cypress. Fuel for 4 days, a good machete, an ice chest. No phone, no radio. Just God and me and the Everglades.
