Another for powdered rosin. Know any bowlers? The good ones have a rosin bag you can get some from and it doesn't take much.

I never had these issues until I bought a wheeler torque wrench. I was just trying to do better I guess and thats when I started having rings loosen, etc when tightening to specs. I still use it, but I grab the small torx wrench that comes with the rings and give it some extra afterwards, Those wrenches are designed in a way to not let you over torque. Depending on your strength you could over torque. Proper torque and blue loctite is your friend
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I would not use tape, or anything with adhesive on it. It can act as a lube of sorts and allow the scope to move over time. Been there. Use rosin.

A good chuckle made my morning cups of Sulawesi even better. O.K., slight thread drift here. Al, where are you getting the Sulawesi? I haven't done an extensive search; but, I've had it recommended to me by a couple of people. I've looked a couple of times and can't find it. Thanks in advance.

A good chuckle made my morning cups of Sulawesi even better. You just can't make some of this stuff up. Good shootin' -Al Reading through the posts, I was wondering when you'd be along with a comment. Maybe a link to one of your tutorial threads to help the situation would be in order.

I’m a fan of Burris Signatures, torque to spec, and blue Loctite. +1 on the Burris Signature rings. Can't recall having a scope slip in them. The composite shim material really grips a scope well, and they don't mar up a tube. The live center design also cures a lot scope mounting evils. Just ran a pile of 212's through a LW, hard recoiling 300 Win mag so equiped yesterday. In the past, that rifle has effectuated scopes shifting in the rings. On that rig and others, I've had to tighten rings down just slightly over spec to keep the scope from moving. I never had a scope move in Talley LW. They used to come egg shaped, wherein torquing the scope down actually moved them into round and generally added enough pressure on the tube to keep the scopes from slipping. Had durability issues with them, however. If for whatever reason the Burris doesn't trip your fancy, move to a 6 fastener design. If your current rings have 2 fasteners, move to 4. And, look up Al's scope ring bedding tutorials. Maximum contact help keep the scopes from shifting.

Good suggestions on how to keep it from sliding above. A good way to verify if it is moving is to draw a light pencil mark around the scope at the ring juncture on each side of the ring. Will be very apparent if it has slipped.

I've never used a torque wrench. Just snug them down sensibly tight, and retighten criss-cross pattern like lug nuts to ensure they all have a good hold.
I'm curious if the OP has a hubble telescope mounted on a hard recoiling rifle, and shooting from a lead sled.

Scope was sliding in the Weaver Rings on my 44 mag. 18 year old me pulled the elastic thread out of an old pair of underwater. 2 even laps each ring, screwed it back together. Never slipped again.
Not joking, not lying.

Liquid electrical tape. Just put a thin line of it on the inside of the top ring and tighten down. Never had a scope move using this method.

Get rings with a longer surface contact area. i.e. instead of 2 screws on each side, get some with 3 screws on each side. Torque to specs.

Lots of good replies. Liquid tape has worked well but if dealing with a large bit of recoil rings with 4 screws always seem to hold well. My personal fix has been to shoot lighter recoiling rifles with 4 screw rings. I hit better and and scopes stay still better.

Fwiw....
About a decade back, some dude said he had a scope problem, couldn't get it mounted, and brought it into shop.
Was a supposedly NOS Tasco Golden Antler. Box was mint ,reportedly purchased at a gun show from a dealer
Anyway, no chit.....one side of turret indeed was a 1" tube. However, on the other side it was larger than 1".
Dunno how that happened. A joke or a screwup?
Whatever, that weird item got me to thinking.....what do scope tubes actually measure?
I found that on subsequent stuff of mine...... scope tubes were the same, per scope. But scope to scope there were slight differences.
IIRC gloss old Vari Xii Leupold compared to new matte Leupold was biggest seen.
