About 12 or 15 years ago I bought a helluva nice 30-06 that is in a Garrett Acculite stock. I am almost certain the original owner told me it was a Kevlar laminate. Do any of y’all have any knowledge about these stocks? I can tell you it’s a very light stock and that it handles recoil better than any stock I’ve used. Built on a commercial FN action with a 22” barrel that’s about a #2 profile, with a Leupold 3x9 it’s exactly 7 1/4#. So the stock has to be light. Any info on the Acculites would be appreciated.

Back in the day I had two stocks from Garrett (which was not the last owner's name, by the way) on Mauser, Mini-mark X barreled actions. They were nice stocks. I spoke with the owner on the phone a few times. I don't recall them using Kevlar (I've heard it's actually kind of a sub-optimal stock material) but I could be wrong. It seemed that Garrett closed up shop almost overnight. I've wondered over the years whatever became of their molds and tooling. That's all I know about them.

Tarquin, thank you. Whatever the material, it’s serving well. I like the design and the weight.

Finn Aagaard built a 30-06 on one of their stocks. He also wrote an article ("The Professional's Rifle") describing it.
Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

Okie John I wonder if the guy who had my rifle built was influenced by Aagard. I read a brief description.

I haven't heard that name mentioned in years. I bought a Garrett in 1983 IIRC. If not 83 within a year or so either way. I ordered the basic stock and did the final fitting and finishing myself. It wasn't professional quality, but it worked for me. I was looking for the lightest stock I could find, and they had a Winchester Featherweight style made for a Rem 700 action that was their lightest option. I don't think it was Kevlar, just a very trim fiberglass stock. I no longer have that stock so I can't weigh it, but IIRC it was on par with a McMillan Edge.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

Yes i used and remember them well. Had a couple of the model 70 featherweight styles one on a 98 Mauser 7x57AI and the other on a Rem 700 7mm Mag. Loved them, Garret-Acculight DFS, Fort Collins Colorado. I even contacted him after he folded up shop to see about buying his molds. He still had them and was pleasant to talk to. This was likely 5-8 yrs ago maybe more as everything was last year....lol, and never did follow through with the molds as work got in the way......
