Jim thanks but it is not a sight like that. Rather a site that lays down along the left side of the receiver and pivots up and down. Hard to describe but you see similar ones a lot on Mod 95's. Looks similiar to this;

" ye olde climbin' Lyman " Just a SWAG but I'm guessing an extra hole or two would have to be drilled and tapped into the reciever. And for the Savage , the older book in my hands shows a similar climbin' sight for the 340 and 342, but a Lyman 57SA ( similar to the 66 LA , for the 99.

Phil You are correct about the need for extra holes. Unfortunately my rifle already has them. That is why I want to buy one to put back. I'm trying to put the rifle back into the shape my Grandfather had it in when I was a kid.

Interesting sight, now that you post it I have seen a picture of one of those before.
What is the pivoting part for, unless it is just a whole lot of elevation adjustment? Looks like it could be adjusted for some awfully long range shooting.

Mickey, I posted your question on another forum ( hope thats OK with you ) So far it seems that there was a similar sight for the '94s and even one on e-bay recently. I don't know if it's ok to post a link to the thread here or not. If not ,I'll just relay the info to you. Lots of knowledge there, should get some good info I hope.

At the risk of being un ruley , This is on leverguns . com http://leverguns.sixgunner.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34892 Phil ( 1894 there and every where else ) Edit to add: Looks like the Lyman 21 and 38 sights fit both the 94's and 95s and the 86s

The Lyman 38 and 21's were to fit the 94,95 and 86's. You can purchase Ukranian made copies of the 38 from Buffalo Arms, and Parts Unknown. They are spendy, but well made.

The 21 is not adjustable for windage, the 38 has a good bit of windage adjustment. I have one of the 38 repro's on my 405, and do like it quite a bit, but for just a strictly hunting rifle the williams fp series would do just as well and possibly better?

I will post pictures when I find the sight. Also the story behind the rifle and my Grandmothers shooting of a Grizzly with it.

Looking forwards to that Mickey. But beware there's liable to be a flurry of doubting thomases about that grizzly bear bit, lest you can convince em it's really a 300 wssm loaded with tshix bullets.
