SOMEONE should take that Marlin off my hands! Dang nice rifle. The firesights are, IMHO, a big upgrade... certainly cost me a few $$.

It is a unsettled time to sell anything... the holidays get wierd that way. I remember from working retail sales that the sort of "baseline" sales would drop, but the "wild hair I shouldn't be doing this!!" sales would like quadruple.

I left work @ 2 yesterday & went out & parked my carcass in the "porkypine stand"... nice & quiet out there.... too quiet... dang it.

should have set up in my wife's ladder stand cause I could hear a buck grunting & milling around over her direction.

oh well, that's hunting right?

the savage 99 is on my list of guns to acquire... a .300 woud go me just fine as would a 250, .308 would be my last choice in my case because I already have a vintage lever in .308

the 99's are very saught after in my area. they bring good money.

They are bringing around $900-1000 here for a .300, $800-850 for a .308, and I have never seen a .250 for sale here. Gander has a few of them here but they are over a grand, but thats ganden mt. for ya. I would like one in a .300 too, just because I have 2 .308's.

my dad's got one in .300, not sure exactly which model it is. I'm definately not a savage expert, that whole interest can become very detailed.

his is pretty old though, brass rotary magazine... it's cool.

step dad has a 250-3000, excellent condition.

that 250-3000 would bring some coin around here, I've never seen one for sale. I just think they are a cool looking rifle, never have shot or carried one for any amount of time.

Thanks!! It makes it even better that me and "the boy" BOTH got a nice buck out of the same stand. I said at the time he shot his that "that makes my season right there". I really mean that. I could have cared less if I got one because seeing that boys eyes light up like that made the whole year for me. Mine is just a bonus! Now Dave!.......Your turn buddy!!

Dave should go sit in that stand. We used to have a stand that would produce a buck sighting every day. Even if one or two were killed from it. In 2005 there were two pigs shot from it and a third ran through while I was on stand but was chasing a doe like heck and gave me no shot. Some spots are just a place where deer cruise through. give it a try and see what shakes.

Yup. Slugs only. 1st or 2nd weekend zone. We aren't lucky enough to have the 9 day season in our area yet.

Dave when you heard that buck over by wifey poo's stand that would have been a real good time to start wackin some horns together and grunting. Who knows he may have come a runnin!

Why DO they have the split season? Quite a few times when I tell someone from here that I'm from MN, they'll say " they have a split season right?" Never could answer them honestly as to why the do it. BIL usually hunts it over by Madison.

I really do think MN needs to trash the deer regulations and start over instead of the piecemeal add ons they always do.

The regs are so screwey and old, clean em up start over and address the new issues.

Jusy my thoughts...

I believe it was set up that way (Zone 4A and 4B) 1st and 2nd weekend because it is more open, more populated farm country. The 9 day and more zones were always in the woods north and east of these zones. I don't know if it was because they thought it would be easier to get a deer if there wasn't as many woods around or what? I think it was last year that they made eveything north of hwy 10 to 2 (I think) into a 9 day season. I'm not sure why this is. They really need to re-think these zones I believe.

Yeah, tuff to call 'em off a hot doe once their locked on. Even with the horns. I wonder what a primos estrus can would have done? I seem to have decent luck with those things. I don't know if that is what brought in that pair under my stand on thursday or not but I know they heard it.

Dave,

They are right about the buck area stand though, go get your 12 ga and slugs out! I've got 2 places no make that 3 now that pretty well sometimes up to allday long bucks will cruise through the area within feet of the same tree year after year. Just drove up scouting one of my favorite hot spots, I've wacked both those bucks I sent pics of in 2 consecutive years from that same tree, with Many others passing by. The daughter gets that stand this year with me, Common Saturday I want to see her smile!!!

You guys should see the 99 one friend has in 243 its a wonderful piece to shoot. Still on my wish list, maybe one for the kids sometime soon though.

Jeff,
If you still have that Marlin after Christmas I may just be calling.
