Just to keep from becoming too big-boring about all the .458 WinMag superiority over all other rifles,
I thought I would try a smaller bore just for kicks.
Hammer Bullets is my new favorite bullet maker. Of course I want to try them in a smaller bore,
which is everything else they make besides .458!

It came to mind that I never got around to finding that GameField Dominator .408-caliber bullet of 300 grains.
It would have to be a hollowpoint monometal with sleek shape to cut the mustard.
The old 300-gr/.408 BattleField Dominator was a solid needle-nose, would not do for deer and varmints and such, inhumane.
Looking at Hammer Bullets led to a discovery of Pittman Muzzleloader bullets in .408-caliber.

I went there to read about the interesting smokeless muzzleloader bullets made for Pittman by Hammer Bullets.
All four weights are gone now, sold out, from the Pittman site: 253-gr, 273-gr, 297-gr, 322-gr.

You can only get the 3 lighter ones now at Hammer: 252-gr, 272-gr, 296-gr.
What is a one grain difference amongst friends anyway?

End of the line for the monometal Hammer-copper 322-grain/.408 boat tail?

That is not a picture of a boat tail above, but it is the end of the line for that thong.
Tease off.

Here is the previous closest I have come to the .408 GameField Dominator:

I got the first batch of those made by GSC.
And now I might have the last batch of the 322-gr Hammers,
having grabbed the last 12 boxes of those 322-gr/.408-cal Hammers from Pittman, on clearance.
Apparently too much bullet for a .40-cal muzzleloader, they languished there for years,
still bright and shiny as new.

They might be the cat's meow in the .408 CheyTac.
The 322-gr Hammer is obviously an improvement over the 335-gr GSC HV.
The 296-gr Hammer might be even better for varmints and Kodiak deer and such.
Here is the .408 CheyTac Sporter:

That is going to make me appreciate the .458 WinMag even more, if that is possible.
Ah, well, embrace the suck if you do not have a .458 WinMag, is what I always say when I am toting a 12 or 13 pounder.
