Searching the net for 99's have not run across any seller accepting C/R license so just assume it's not on BATF list?

I'm surprised some advanced collectors have not petition BATF to review the adding Savage 99's to Curio Relics. I don't see the 99 any different than the pre-64 Model 70.

Any gun over 50 years old is C&R.So if you find one made before 1957, it's C&R. I've bought several that way. Chip

Yes, it's on the list but the SN is somewhere in the 400,000 range and out of date.

Many sellers accept C&R on 1899 / 99 sales.

I believe the 50 year rule is correct but proving age to the ATF could be a challenge.

It is ashame we have no mouth-piece w/the batf.
As was stated all 99's should be on the C&R list.

The BATF uses Murray's serial number of 566,000 as the accepted C&R cut-off. Even though it is listed for 1950 it's the only published number available and that is what they use.

Linking the 50 year date to a serial number is something we do on the Forum. Wheather the BATF or an FFL dealer will accept a serial higher than the one published, even though we know it is over the 50 year mark, is unknown.

As for accepting a C&R, an FFL dealer should accept it and the BATF's published serial but a lot of them don't understand what a C&R is and will refuse to accept anything other than an FFL. Not much you can do about that.

So what would being on the C&R rating list get you?

You could get the 99's and the dealer could ship it direct to your door. No paper work involved, no call in to the FBI. The ATF will acecpt ANY firearm that is over 50 years old as C&R.

Jed, all it would take to get all the 99's on the C&R list, is to have someone with a very good knowledge of the guns to write a letter explaining that the gun is no longer made, and has become a collectable item, and other flowery wording and send to BATF. They will look at the letter and have a panel check everything out, and give a yes or no answer. Could also explain the price on the 99's have gone up about 300 percent since the rifles were discontinued, by collectors buying them.

You must hold a C&R license to receive it. Not hard to get but you must have it.
