A couple of years ago there was a long thread on the Stevens 425 lever action serial numbers and calibers. I would like to sort out/update the data but can not locate the old thread. Can anyone bring this thread back to life for me?

Not in my direction. Did mention to him the production numbers listed in books seem to be way too high.

Where did he get the 21000 made number? I always thought it was under 5000?

Joe, In Bill Wests savage stevens book it says the stevens high power rifles were serial numbered along with the no 15 stevens favorite, about 15,000 no 15's were made. At least tht is what i rember reading. I may have to go find my West book and read it again. If i remember the survey correctly no one had ever found a high power rifle with a serial number under 1000 or over 6000. Don

That information has to be incorrect, the 1915 Favorites do not have regular serial numbers, they have what looks like assembly numbers - A single letter followed by a 3 digit maximum number, those numbers had to repeat since the the largest would be Z999, this is the same way the Visible Loaders were marked. I also makes no sense to combine those two model, one a center fire repeater introduced in about 1910 and discontinued about 1915 when the other one, a single shot rimfire, was introduced - if they were together all the lower numbers would be 425's and we have never seen one as high as the mid 5000's. Often gun makers do things that do not seem to make sense, but I think the thought of combining those two models is way beyond anything even Stevens would do, like only chambering the 425's in the new Remington calibers instead of more popular established ones.
