My first post here and must say its a wealth of information.

My question is I have a 1899 303 with 26" round barrel made 1904 with a stuffed non-original butt. I was looking at ordering one from www.gunstocksinc.com - the perchbelly one. Where can I get a crescent buttplate from? As its only a shooter a reproduction will do? Would a Winchester or Marlin suit?

Bought one off ebay but just my luck it seems to be for a Remington 14. Does anyone make a copy? Are the dimensions similar to a Winchester or Marlin?

Appreciate any help I can get.

Mick, Brownells has crecent buttplates listed as 'Marlin' or 'Winchester'. They are 'as cast', meaning you'll have to drill the screw holes and finish it yourself. I don't know which one is the closest match to a Savage but I'm sure you can make one fit and look good.

The 1894/1892 plate is shorter in both directions.

Most of the Savage plates will be marked "SAV-35" on the inside. Generally are not cheap either.

Savage...never say "never".
