Since McMillan is no longer making stocks for Sako 85’s actions are there any other options? Brown, Basner, etc?

Thanks

I've received an e-mail this week from McMillan to the effect that it is considering a u-turn on the 85 inlet at some point in the future. At present, there is no intention to return to 75 production. Unfortunately, I have 75s.

Kind regards,

Tim

Midwest Gunworks has factory new Sako wood stocks in the Bavarian style for a decent price. There is also a New Zealand company that makes a $1200 carbon fiber model for the 85 "S" action (and possibly other sizes). If you're good with fiberglass and bedding compound, I believe you can make a Brown Pounder fit the extra-small Sako 85 and probably the small (.308 length) 85 as well. In fact, you could probably modify just about any fiberglass stock and make it work. It seems to me that the critical dimension is the vertical distance between the the floorplate where it mates with the bottom of the stock and top edge of the loading port. You can also call JB at Accu-Flite. I think they have sythetic stocks. You might also try Fierce Rifles and see if they'd sell you one of theirs (if you like their style).

Thanks guys.

I called McMillan and they told me it would probably be late next year before they began inletting for the Sako 85 again.

I just received a stock from Oregon Gunsmithing and very happy with the results so far. The inletting on my Sako 85 short action is superb. A couple of things to note: The closet they have to a Sako Hunter design is their High Comb Sporter which is based on a Weatherby stock. The stock they make is more like a McMillian Edge. The price was $650 which included fitting the stock which is very reasonable.

I have the original plastic stock for a 75 and may replace my McMillian Swirly 75 with a Stock from Oregon Gunsmithing. I'll let you know if I make the switch.

I have a Bavarian stock in my basement if you’re interested. I think it’s 06 length action.

The Kevlar stock I have on my Accuflite Sako 85M in 6.5x284 fits me and feels the same quality as my McMillan AV.

Just got off the phone with JB @ Accu-Flite. They make custom kevlar stocks and inlet for all Sako models. Price is $1089----drop in fit on pillars. Lots of colors and styles available.

I had a conversation with Fierce Firearms last night regarding a Carbon Fiber Stock for my Sako 85 S in .308. The Rage stock is available for that Model for $ 795.00

I called McMillan a couple weeks ago and they are not making finished stocks for the Sako 85. They will make you a flat top stock for around $600ish.
