It appears me and the missus are fixing to relocate to the Valley View Texas area.
Anyone from around there ? Suggestions on outdoor activities?
Places to eat or places to stay away from?

TIA

You won't be far from the LBJ National Grasslands, great Spring turkey season there for Rio's. Buy the map from the U.S. Forest Service in Decatur because the Grasslands are not all contiguous. Stay away from the universities in Denton, they're hives of full-blown communists. You can drive down to Southlake/Grapevine for every cuisine you want.

Great bass and crappie fishing and duck hunting on Lake Ray Roberts which is within a stones throw.
North toward Oklahoma is Lake Texoma.
Great striper, crappie and bass lake. Good duck hunting as well.
You'll need a Tx license and a $12.00 Lake Texoma license to fish it though as it is the border between us and the Okies.
98 percent of the state is private property so not a lot of public land to hunt on.
The state does own some land around Texoma that is open to public hunting for deer and hogs.
Not sure of the regulations there as like most Texans I lease a ranch to hunt deer and hogs.

As far as places to eat, I have no clue.
Drive through there occasionally but rarely stop.

Gainesville s u c k s!!!! Had a bunch of stuff stolen from there. Included was every piece of hunting and camping gear I owned. No firearms thank God.

Only thing cops did was give us a case number for insurance. They never tried to apprehend anyone. I spit every time I'm forced through the area.

Do you have to move there?

As Dess stated, Gainesville does suck.

Take a little drive over to Muenster and go to Fischer's Market and Hess Meats.
Stop along the way and eat at Dieter Brothers BBQ in Lindsay.
Take the back roads, not I-35. You'll come out on Highway 82 somewhere between Muenster and Lindsay.
Nice scenic drive along the Red River on the CRs up there too but they are gravel, North of highway 82.
They had a distillery in VV a few years back, not sure if it's still there.

Avoid I-35 towards Denton and beyond at rush hours.
WinStar casino right up I-35 in OK.

Our basketball team got jumped in the high school parking lots after we beat them back in the 70's, sounds like it still sucks.

I took this pic just west of Bowie before I left Texas this summer. I worked in Ponderay for a little bit, I'm thinking there is no comparison.

In 2012, I was on Kodiak Island on a charter fishing trip.
The fog moved in and we were 6 days late flying out.
I'm standing in the front door of the Best Western and called my wife in Oklahoma.
It was 117° and there had been no rain for 2 or 3 months.
The A/C had just gone out and the repairman couldn't get there for 2 days.
The Ace Hardware sign down the street read 55° and rain! I didn't dare tell her! 🤕

We drove all the way out to Chiniak to eat at "Road's End" restaurant. The food was okay, but not exceptional. The 45 mile drive out there and back was awesome.

They have these establishments called bars, cold AC and beer. Don't see a problem other than I would like to see some more rain.

Okee dokee!

There is a HUGE "First Monday" flea market in Westherford, TX.
There is a "Second Monday" flea market in Bowie, TX every month. Lot's of antiques and junk. Sometimes guns and/or ammo. Can't hold a candle to Weatherford.
Neither one can hold a candle to the flea market in Canton, TX every month.

There is an Amish group on Ada, OK that has a sale occasionally. Lots of handmade and homemade goods and food! Awesome!

For a pretty good Friday or Saturday afternoon, go wander around "The Stockyards" on North Main in Fort Worth. Entertaining.
Go to the Stockyards Championship Rodeo. It's hinky if you know anything about rodeo, but it's pretty neat.
Hang onto your rodeo ticket. It'll get you into "Billy Bob's Texas" free after the rodeo.
The bull riding at Billy Bob's is much more authentic than the rodeo.
There is a BBQ restaurant across the street from the Stock Exchange that is awesome.
Go to M.L. Leddy's boot store. One awesome place to visit.

There is lot's to do within a short drive of VV.

Oh! BTW! There is a pastry shop in Muenster. Don't remember the name, but the authentic strudel is to die for!
A buddy of mine and his wife live near Duncan, OK. They buy beef from that outfit in Muenster. Good stuff, Maynard!

Good luck in Valley View, Texas! 🙂👍

P.S. - don't forget the car museum on Nocona.

You should be alright if you try to assimilate.
Be sure to not daydream out loud about things
" back home " or about how hot it is and cry
about not having any snow and such.
There's really too many here now that do that.
It gets hot, and cow sh*t stinks here just like
everywhere else, and we drive just fine.
You should be in decent shape there if they
haven't tried to make a " small town destination "
out of it already. Used to be that you didn't have
to worry about anything in the smaller towns,
but everywhere you go now there's punks
and criminals
Good Luck
