Hello folks. I'm new to the forum. I joined as I noticed many Savage owners on it. I have my great grandfathers Savage 1899 in the orginial box with 410 barrel along with a 300 savage barrel. I'm looking for a replacement S1 rear sight as mine has had the screws soldered or welded. I keep the gun in Canada where I hunt for deer in northern ontario. 99trix do you still have one?

Photo of what the sight looks like at the moment
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I wonder if the knobs may be missing which is why it is soldered?

Sounds like you have a cased set from your great grandfather. A family treasure.

You should be able to find a period tang sight without too much trouble. Lyman also makes period correct tang sights. None of them are cheap. Be prepared to open your wallet.

Good luck

I have 3. Different apertures, but 2 look similar to yours. All in nice shape. Contact me for details.

I think he means he has 3 sights, two with different apertures. You might not have enough post to PM him. I think there is a post limit?

I have 3 complete S1 sight assemblies. One has an adjustable aperture, the other are fixed aperture.

Yes, I have 20 posts and still cannot PM. I don't understand the rule, but I abide by it.

I'll put some contact info on here if that is what it takes.

I'm fresh out, sold an S1 last month and a Lyman #18 three days ago.

I was thinking of sending the one you have to Mike Maraccini to have it fixed and maybe some new parts added to it but if you found one for sale it would be a whole lot easier than having one sent away for repair.

Hello Mad Dog. thanks for feedback much appreciated
Sorry to hear all out of sights. It sounds like I might have a couple to select from so no need for repair route. Will let you know if that plan doesn't work out

I see your in Ontario. I'm from Sudbury and that is where I get back to heaps for fishing and hunting.

Cheers

Hey Fred, where are you hunting deer?

If your from Sudbury I'm guessing your on Manitoulin? I'm on the next island over.
