Great resale value out in Reno.

Go with a Hyundai Santa Fe. You won't regret it

Pards wife has the Crosstrek. Even he likes it. Doors open up quite a ways and he likes ease of entrance exit. Betting they open another 15° or so than a normal vehicle.
Has the ability for a 1 or 2" lift if one so desires. She has a hill to get up once leaving the highway and their drive is about 1/4 mile uphill to the house. Locks it in and goes right up

My wife’s CRV is about due to be replaced and she is doing her usual internet review search. It will be interesting to see what she decides on. Good luck

My son has a Forester and likes it,Most subaru owners love them and put up with their faults one of which is they consistently use oil. Great mpg, and nice ride seem to offset oil problems. And the AWD seems to be very much desired in certain areas of the country.

The best thing about them is their 4WD system, I believe. Their crash protection system is also first class, if you believe the TV ads.
On the downside, lots of mechanics hate the engine/trans and you have to get past the ultra lib philosophy of the company. Prepare to have your manhood questioned if you drive one.

Dad n step-mom got t-boned by 18 wheeler in theirs. Middle of round a bout. Dash cam in truck was impressive, to the point the carrier said "surprised you survived" - walked without a scratch.

I have around 1000 miles driving a friend's 2019 Forester. I have around 1500 miles driving a friends 2013 and 2019 RAV. I've also driven newer CRV's and Hyundai Santa Fe some.
The Forester and the RAV are the two SUV's I would consider if I was in the market. The RAV has a bit more power and more room in back. The Forester is a bit more comfortable for my 6-1 stud body. Fuel mileage is dang near the same. I didn't notice any oil consumption with the Forester--and I check fluid levels before and during a trip. I like the option the RAV gives me to shift on my own--helps a bunch on snowpacked mtn roads. The Forester lets you manually downshift one gear and that's it. Both are straightforward without a lot of geegaw crap on them, the Forester a bit less useless crap on it. But the RAV infotainment center was easier for me to figure out the few things I wanted/needed. I hate infotainment systems.
Here in Colorado it seems the Subaru dealerships are better than Toyota.

Wife has a 2016 Outback that she generally likes.
Imo they can be tinney & the electronic features seem to be a gen behind but darn if they aren’t good in the snow.

My son lives in Seattle and they got a Forester to get around in the traffic. They get some serious ice storms and with all the hills, he gets around better than 99% of them. Even with 4x4, though, he's had some scary times on the ice.

My wife got a Forester in June and she and me love it. A lot of places we used to have to take the pickup due to rough roads/snow we now take the Subaru. Handles the road and snow great. Averages around 33-34 mpg all the time. Comfortable to drive and easy to see out of. Plenty of head room if you're over 6' tall, which much of the other vehicles we looked at didn't have. Not super quiet or anything, but with gravel road driving, it's not going to be quiet anyway. I'm sold on it.
