I'm getting ready to put together a rifle and am thinking of either 20" or 22" bbl's. What are some velocities and loads you guys are getting from this cartridge. Looking for 300 yds and in. Thanks!

I am on my second 338Fed both with 21” barrels. The first one liked 200gr Hornady Interlocks with 47.0gr of IMR4895 (max load according to IMR). I chronographed them at 2550. The second one likes Federal Fusions 185gr and 42.3gr of H322. I have not clocked that load yet. Of course the Hornady is no longer made and I think the Federal Fusion component bullets are the same. I have plenty to last me though.

Hell no, he could screw up a hammer. He's done a lot of bad work for me in the past.

I went 24" on mine and don't regret it, but it's a little Kimber 84M. I'd be happy with 20 or 22 as well. Balance for me is great at 24. I've got other carbines if I need a short barrel.

I had a 280AI and I wanted to convert it back to a shorter 280. After a while he told me it was almost finished, but I discovered through some small detective work that he couldn't get the barrel off and ended up twisting it, ruining my barrel that had nothing wrong with it. He then couldn't figure out whose barrel it was and sent it to Douglas. I found out he lied about all that and called Douglas. They said it wasn't even their barrel. I then got the gun back to see that if you looked in the action you could see Shilen engraved right in on the barrel.

I called him on the lie and ruining my barrel. He then started calling me names and I told him he should be glad I lived in Roanoke and wasn't in Harrisonburg at that moment. He had me pay his cost for a Lilja and he would do all the work for free. I picked it up and got back to Roanoke. I went to shoot it and found bedding material in my barrel. I had to drive 2 more hours back to get it removed.

He also did a bedding job for me and bedded in the bolt release spring. You think he would have fired and checked his work. Pipe fitter was better than gunsmith.
