One could always put in a cheap crap stock with a skinny barrel and then complain why it won’t shoot.

I was pretty excited when the rifle first came out, but the weight turned me off as well. Also, for a lefty I thought it was really cool that the bolt handle could be moved to either side, but then I realized that the ejection was still on the right side.

You make good points.

As a rifle for range use, or one that's not carried very far (like a stand rifle), the weight is no big deal and can result in better overall accuracy.

Look at the Beretta BRX. They came out with a straight pull that is much lighter.

What is the market for the Savage Impulse? It looks like a cheap $400 piece of crap, but with an expensive rifle price tag. Straight pull bolt actions have been around a long time in various designs and never really caught on with Americans. Might be worth buying one of these to make a little money off selling it after Savage discontinues them in five years and they gain minor collector value.
