One could always put in a cheap crap stock with a skinny barrel and then complain why it won’t shoot.

I was pretty excited when the rifle first came out, but the weight turned me off as well. Also, for a lefty I thought it was really cool that the bolt handle could be moved to either side, but then I realized that the ejection was still on the right side.

I traded for one about six months ago. 308 win. It took some time to get used to it. It’s not perfect but the extra weight I don’t mind. Helps with recoil. For a factory rifle it’s shoots well. Some groups under half inch with 150 and 165 grain. Popped off three 168 Sierra match at 600 yards and got 2.6 inch group. That will do. As a rifle for range use, or one that's not carried very far (like a stand rifle), the weight is no big deal and can result in better overall accuracy.

What is the market for the Savage Impulse? It looks like a cheap $400 piece of crap, but with an expensive rifle price tag. Straight pull bolt actions have been around a long time in various designs and never really caught on with Americans. Might be worth buying one of these to make a little money off selling it after Savage discontinues them in five years and they gain minor collector value.
