Yup. I started working just before Affirmative Action became a thing. My company signed a Consent Decree that resulted in all us white fellers being put at the bottom of the opportunity list for several years. No matter, it all came out in the wash. Even a woke company needs enough people around to get the work done, and being willing to go where the work was worked out for me very nicely.

My card is worse, it came with add on’s - old, male, and straight.

How many of you were denied employment solely based on your name? Asking for a black friend.

How many of you have been followed by loss prevention personnel while shopping in a department store? Asking for a black friend.

How many of you have been asked to speak on behalf of all people of your race? Asking for a black friend.

I am, and I would venture to guess many of your are, recipients of the white privilege.

The worse example I recall was during my house hunting adventures in Lawton, Oklahoma. A real estate agent lady would only show us houses in predominately white neighborhoods. I asked why we weren't looking in other subdivisions and neighborhoods that my sponsor recommended. She told me we wouldn't fit in those places because we were white. I bought a house with a different agent in a mixed neighborhood. Our neighbors were some of the nicest people I have ever let.

Thanks for your reply, Dinny. Many people don't even realize how they benefit from it -- or even what white privilege is. Far too many overlook the fact that white privilege doesn't mean that a white person won't have to work hard to be successful. But the "privilege" is that a white person will encounter fewer obstacles along the way and is likely to benefit from preferential treatment in certain scenarios. A perfect example of that happened several years ago in an open carry state. The study had both a black man and a white man walking along with a rifle slung over the shoulder. The white man was not pressed and in fact was the beneficiary of conversation with the officer. The black man had guns drawn on him and was forced to the ground as more than a half dozen officers rushed in to stop the perceived threat.

I’ve been passed over for a promotion because of my “privilege”. More than once actually.

I’ve taken a wrong turn in Detroit, pulled over and then escorted out by the police because I was the wrong color.

Your last comment is just virtue signaling. Why is it that everyone else on planet earth is encouraging tribalism, blacks only dorms in campus, but whites cannot be?

Surely your black friend would post up backing your word.

Some of us have been working trades in places that require quota's based on race. Tell me more about your imaginary friends.

Oh boy.. my daughter is over 1/2 American Indian and she’s been accused of being privileged. If a real estate agent told me to stay away from a certain part of town I’m listening. Oh I was asking for a black friend as well..

Quotas had me passed over for promotion 3 times, the sheriff wanted to promote two females and a Hispanic male. We tested for promotion and I was the top of the list, took a year to finally get stripes on my sleeve. Worked out in the end, the three that passed me over didn't last long and when I left I was senior in grade and the Sheriff apologized to me for playing politics before his term was up. The next Sheriff was a napoleonic politician so a couple years into his reign my wife said she was done with that life and I pulled the plug.

At 78, am I the old timer in this thread. Because, if I am, I am still working full time + OT if I can get it. All because everything we have today, both my wife and I worked for it

Here's a novel idea...
How about we hire / promote based on the most qualified candidate regardless of race, sex, quotas, demographic upbringing or whatever other criteria they come up with.

Say your 10 yr daughter is going in for heart surgery. What criteria would you look at when selecting a surgeon?

I want the one that was hired because they were the best...not the one that was hired to fill a quota or demographic chart.

If I didn't already have one, I'd be all over this one.
