Anybody able to take a shot at what an ultra clean pre war 30/06 carbine might be worth?

Anybody able to take a shot at what an ultra clean pre war 30/06 carbine might be worth? Ultra clean means uncut and no extra holes and the answer is quite a bit. But without pictures, doubt many are going to stick their neck out on this one.

Pre what war? 30/06 but who made it? Ultra clean original? Sporterized but still clean and well done? To many variables here.

An unaltered prewar carbine is a jewel. That said, do you know exactly what "unaltered" means? No QD studs, recoil pad, extra holes on the side or top, or stock notched for long tang Lyman peep. If it is indeed unaltered, I would love to own it.
I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

The only one I’ve ever seen, they were asking 3k, it’s still on the rack for sale.

I saw one in Montana 2 years back in 250 Sav. Was 5 grand. Just didnt have enough condition. So I bought the cheaper 1956 Standard SG in 243 next to it. Glad I did.

A standard 243 is an odd duck,BLR…Good choice. They made a pile of featherweights, but only 6k ish standards. If this one was something other than an 06 it would have been a no brainer. This one definitely has the condition. It’s completely unmolested.

No joke, go ahead and educate me. OP doesn’t provide any specs on the gun other than caliber and “pre war.” We’ve had a lot of wars….. and there are a lot of carbines.

I'm no expert but I can't think of another rifle line that uses to pre-64 to designate other than Winchester Model 70. They didn't exist before WW1... so he's referring to pre-WW2, i.e., it's a late 1930s rifle.

clockwork,
Some refer to other Winchester sporting arms as "pre-'64," because in '64 also changed to "modern" manufacturing methods, which sometimes affected quality. But in general, yes, pre-'64 is usually applied to Model 70s.

I've dealt with m94s categorized that way (though my post-64s struck me as pretty darn nice) but I think, as you note, most people default to Model 70s, especially for collector grade firearms.

All model 94's are categorized that way also - not less or more than the model 70 but the same. The difference between a post and pre 94 are night and day.

I saw one at a gun show recently in 30-06. It was a clean gun all original asking price was $3200. He still had it Sunday. I've had a couple of carbines and there nice rifles, the downside to the pre war guns at least for me is they were made to use iron sights and my eyes aren't good enough for those anymore. If it's drilled and tapped for a scope there goes the originality.

But if you were in a room of rifle nuts and said, "Hey come check out my new pre-64!" I bet 7 or 8 out of 10 walk over assuming it's a M70.
