If you had to choose between a Bushnell Elite 4500 or Leupold VX Freedom, which would you choose?

I would choose the Bushnell unless it is to be mounted on a hard kicker. The Bushnell is lacking in the eye relief department if nowhere else.

Elite.

There really isn't even a question there, and I'm not even a big Bushnell fan.

At this point I've had several Korean made Bushnells go tits up on me so cross them off my list. Granted they were older Banners but I would no longer trust a Korean made scope.

From what I can find, the Elite is made in Japan. Have you found anything different?

Totally agree with Blackheart. Had 4500 4-16, 30mm tube, that went south with the tracking the third time I took it to the range. Dialed up 4" it would go up 3. Back to zero and I was an inch below original zero. Just for yuks, I shot a few more rounds and played with the adjustments and it just got worse. Bushnell was very prompt about sending me a new one. Never opened it up; just put it up for sale. I haven't messed with any of the VX Freedom scopes, so no opinion on those.

Great warranties and service are fine, but not needing them remains the best. Things change so fast now it’s hard to keep up with who makes what and where, not to mention what’s been done inside that you can’t see.

I have a couple elites and more than a few Leupold's. I have the Elites on varmint rifles, no concern about recoil there and I like them. I also have a few Leupold's on Varmint rifles, I like them.

If I were going to mount the scope on a kicker, I'd pick Leupold. On Varmint rifles, I'm not sure as I like them both.

But if I knew where they were built and one was built in the USA, I'd always pick built in the USA! Second choice would be a friendly country to the USA.

If one was built in Communist China, I wouldn't pay a nickel for it.

I prefer classic.

I have a umber of Elite 4500s and all were built in Japan. The newly introduced ones are built in Korea. Also between a Freedom and a Japan Elite I'd take the Elite.

If a Japan scope, it’s no comparison.
