There was this 30ish year old black phagg named Dentyne (big ass white smile) that rode a red Schwinn and delivered papers. Friend of mine shot him with a cross man BB pistol for making a move on him at the spot they dumped all the bundles of papers for the kids to pick up.

No paper route but we had an old queer that sold popcorn from a little stand he pulled behind a big tricycle with a basket across between the back wheels.

About a block from where he usually sold popcorn was an old cobbler that they claimed was caught strapping his razor in the front window a few times, not sure on that though.

Town where all the greats and grandparent's were from had a Rexall drug that still had the ice cream shop inside.

Back in probably the mid to early '80s my grandmother took me in there to get a scoop.

Old lady was trying to make conversation with me but something seemed off and I wouldn't talk to her.

Got out of there and grandma said that weren't no lady, left it at that. I knew damn good and well where she was headed with that statement, creeped the hell out of me and I never wanted to go back in there again.

There was an old dude in my town who used a walker and shuffled around all day in pajamas. He lived near the elementary school in town, and we'd see him through the windows. This was mid/late '70s. The teachers would tell us he "was just old" and to ignore him.

Ended up getting busted for solicitation at a truck stop out by the interstate.

Reminds me of this guy:

I was 19 when I had a paper route. Delivered it in an F-100 pick up. Carried a model 28 when I ran it late at night. No pedophiles on my route. There was some interesting drunks and an armed robber one night.

This thread has me pausing from time to time these days. The co-owner of LaCrosse archery was recently arrested and charged with child pornography. He is currently on bail and living with parents. I feel terribly sorry for all concerned in this , particularly his young family! Sad deal and this will have some lasting repercussions on the industry , as well, imo!
