I have a 2x7 leupold scope that the power adjustment ring is extremely tight. Do I have to send this in to the factory or can I loosen it myself? I see that there is a small allen screw on the ring. What is that for?

I had one some years ago like that. Has to be sent in for the repair.

I had the same on a Leupold 2-7X RF Special. I sent it back and they took care of it. I gather it was a common issue with that model. Still a great little scope.

I had to send one back a few years ago for the same problem. As others have already stated, they will take care of it at no charge.

I have multiple examples of every generation of Leup 2x7's. The mag ring is tighter than needed on all of them, and some of them stupidly tight. Friend of mine sent a 2x7 in for that reason, and it came back slightly less tight.

Leupold and optic loonys will indignantly and righteously have a fit, but I have squirted silicone lubricant against the mag ring, worked the ring back and forth, and it has helped quite a bit.

Some of the scopes I "lubricated" 20 years ago, and none have exploded into a mushroom cloud.....

Probably not your issue. But if the scope is on a gun, check to see that your rings are not overly tightened and that your rings are aligned.

This was going to be my suggestion. I had a Leupold VXIII that had a tight power selector ring. Turns out my scope ring caps were tightened down too much.
