Recently had to sell my SXS. As funds allow, I'd like something to replace it and am giving serious thought to a Suzuki or Geo. Can be had cheaper than a SXS, not much larger, easier to plate, and less rules of where I can drive it here.
This is what I use, I usually just walk from where I camp, but the quad on the trailer comes in handy when I shoot something and need to get it back to camp.
I like that setup.
Thanks, 85 chevy 1 ton dually....454 propane, dana 60 front, dana70 rear, turbo 400 auto...the pic was this year, 4 chains on in the pic and barely made it out of there.
I don't day hunt, I almost always go for at least 2 nights or longer and that is my rig.
I built the camper, wood stove, all wood, no metal, tin etc..... Tin sweats, I hate that.
Roadkill is a hoot! I like the suburban for transporting my hunting dogs. Can keep my athletes the proper temperature during transit. 1988 is the last year they had straight front axles which may yield a rougher ride but are more durable than independent front suspension with constant velocity u-joint half shafts. Alignment amounts to checking toe in from time to time.
Your 88 Burb is a great rig - agree on the many positives, including the OE tires. For 20 years I used a 72 Suburban the same way for hunting/fishing (room for any rod rig) and back country travel - one tough 4wd wagon, including that T400. Have been tempted to have one like yours (but with 4sp manual), but am simply joined at the hip with the 67-72 trucks.

That whole rig is impressive - self-built custom camper like that is beyond cool - and the wood stove, wow. Understand that truck and its features (especially underneath), and it seems ultimate for the purposes. Add the 4 wheel strong trailer - bingo! The sin of envy appears.
Wow - would I like to have one of those HCF models for fun? However, first experience with one was shaky way back when. Deer hunt up on the Bozarth Mesa with a local rancher who had that cab setup with the PTO winch and a pickup bed aft. He crawled down the steep/narrow/edgy/rocky trail to Burro Creek so we could hunt the bottom. Many moments I was certain that we were going to pitch the whole rig forward face down in the rocks. Then, the crawl back up - with two mule deer. Great day once I got used to the ride.
