Men, I have been using a Unertl 24 x 63 Spotting scope for 30 years now. Our club has started 300-yard BR Matches (9 power max on scope) and I am struggling seeing the 6mm and up bullets holes with the Unertl.
I hear that the resolution on the Unertl's is pretty good but am wondering if there are any upgrades out there currently.
I hear good things about Kowa and am considering a Leupold SX 5 Santium. any actual experience with any of these?
The original Unertl company shut down almost thirty years ago , but everything they made was of very good quality, though 24X is a little light for distance.
I've had a Kowa 884 with a 20X(maybe 25X?) - 60X lens for about ten years. Huge and heavy, and you need a sturdy tripod, but it works well for distances beyond 200 yards, about the point where the cheaper scopes begin to show their shortcomings.
