Still have a 35 rem build on my mind Could get a Remington 22-250 barreled action pretty cheap from a friend Would work easier for a gunsmith to start with this instead of a 243 or 308 due to rim diameter ?

22-250 rim diameter is the same as 243 and 308.

I think 35 rem might be too long for setups designed to feed the 22-250, but that will depend on the action and magazine setup.

I went the other direction. I have a 22-250 built on LR Mauser. Shoots amazingly well, can’t get it to feed properly.

Wikipedia will generally show you cartridge dimensions, so you could see that 22-250 has the same rim diameter as 243 and 308.

While the SAAMI cartridge overall length for the .35 Remington is slightly longer than the .22-250s (2.525" vs. 2.350"), both will usually feed well from the standard "short-action" magazines made by most manufacturers--which are around 2.85" long.

The rim diameter of the .35 is a little smaller, by about 1/100th of an inch. So far have never seen this to matter in bolt-actions.

In fact, 600's chambered for the .35 used a 308 boltface. GD

Yep, and so do the Model 20s made by Melvin Forbes of Ultra Light Arms.

It's also easy to make .35 Remington cases from .308 brass. Have done it a lot with my Redding Big Boss press--as described in at least one of my books.

I’ve talked with JES on a 35 Remington bolt build - he told me to send a 700 .243 or .308 action along with a .223 or .222 takeoff barrel to make it work for a rebore to 35 Remington. I just haven’t sent off to him yet for the work. No idea if this helps at all, but thought I would mention it.

Don't know if it would be much easier, but have never tried it.

But am sure that would work too....

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it! One of those cartridge conversions I guess I'd never thought about before. Stumbled on a deal for a 35 Rem a while back and for the short range swamp hunting I do it's become one of my favorites over the last 5 or 6 years.

Great cartridge. Was thinking of the same build. Or a single shot
