Ken, I think quite a few lightweight 410 24" barrels were made, i think the medium weight 24" barrels are not as common.Don

Don,
I don't know if this complicates your search or not. I have only two 410 barrels. One is a 24" medium weight that came with my 1931 K. The other is a 22" lightweight that I fit to my 1919 250-3000. The two rifles have different length forearms. I measured the distance from the breech end of the barrel to the screw that secures the fastening mechanism to the barrel. That distance on the medium weight barrel is 12 9/16"; on the lightweight barrel it is 11 9/16".
I believe the early Gs had the same forearm as the 250-3000. What I don't remember, if I ever knew, is when the change occurred to the longer forearm. Was it with the change to the medium weight barrel, or did it occur sometime during the lightweight barrel era? In other words, are there lightweight 24" barrels with the fastening mechanism in different positions?

Norm, the lightweight barrel is thinner. It would have room around it with a medium weight forearm. A medium weight barrel is too fat for the lightweight barrel forearm. The barrel addresses on the barrels changed from time to time. There was a post on these recently.

Jaaack, Im thinking when they started making the medium weight barrels with the large integral front sights they went to the heavier forearm. I have a "E" in 300 s/n 289,xxx that has the medium weight barrel, large integral front sight ,and bigger forearm. The G i just got is the first with a 24 1/4" long barrel !!! Don

So, I guess the real question is how long is the forearm on your rifle? If it is 11 1/4" you'll need a barrel with the fastening mechanism screw in the 12 9/16" position. If the forearm is 10 1/4" you'll need a barrel with the screw in the 11 9/16" position.

Thats not a problem on the 410 barrels,2 of the ones in my other cased sets have more then one groove in them so the screw assembly can be moved closer or further away to accomadate either forend .

Well, I learn something every day. My two 410 barrels have only one groove. So, if you find a barrel I guess you'll have to check to see if it has two grooves or only one. If only one, then is it in the proper location? Savage didn't make this easy, did they?

Short integral front sight = featherweight barrel
Ramp front sight = medium weight
Long integral front sight = could be either
