Gonna be sure it’s “the one”, then see about a Holosun 507K for my DW Specialist.
Holosun made a smaller, narrower sight closer to the width of a 1911 slide without making the window substantially smaller.
Though I may change my mind 6 times between now and then…..

I haven't done this yet but I'm collecting parts now so take this with a grain of salt. If you want to keep backup iron sights these look like a fantastic option: Trijicon 1911 mount with integrated night sights. This is the route I'll be taking. I'm going with a Trijicon RMR red dot and planning on having these people do the milling for me: ZR Tactical Salutions. They have a plate with iron sights too and it's a little cheaper but they aren't night sights.

Another option if you want a direct mount and bypass the plate is to use compact red dot like a Holosun HS507K V2 or Trijicon RMRcc. These can be directly mounted to the 1911 slide. It could possibly be stronger and definitely cheaper. Here is a company that does those: Green Tick Tactical. The drawbacks to this is the sight window on the compacts are much smaller and while the Holosun 507K has a very rudimentary rear sight, it's hard to use and the RMRcc has none at all. incorporating a BUIS is a compromise at best.

As far as red dots goes, the two I have had a good experience with and trust are the Trijicon and Holosun brands. Both have a stellar reputation and a few pissed off customers.

Your Dan Wesson is a 70 series gun so this will be a little easier to get done.

I put a Holosun 507C on an EGW mount on my 5" Kimber 1911 this year for deer season. Sprung for 45 Super loads with 255gr lead bullets, it gets the job done. Makes hitting so much easier with old eyes.
I did it myself but removing the factory site was not a cake walk. They put it in TIGHT.
