Damn! I'm jealous. I'd be happy to own just one of those.

I wanted to buy one starting in the late 1970s, but kept putting it off till they stopped making them, and the prices on the used ones went way up.

Never had a great interest, but I always thought that, if one were interested in shooting black powder revolver, that would be the one to get.

I'd pit my Pietta Sheriff's Model Remington New Army .45 cap and ball revolver up against the Ruger Old Army in terms of reliability. Its fixed sights are perfectly regulated, too.

It's boringly reliable.

Looks nice

I’ve never broken anything, so I can’t really measure reliably.

I can say that attempting a proof charge full cylinder of bullseye didn’t do anything and the fact it uses LC conversion cylinders speaks to strength

“The revolver was tested by loading each chamber to capacity with Bullseye smokeless powder and a lead ball. While this might result in catastrophic failure in other firearms, the Old Army proved to be strong enough to handle the pressure.”

One was my first BP gun and I’ve seen no reason to change it up

You’re missing a .45 Colt conversion.

Or maybe just playing it cagey with your “ghost gun”. I hear they shoot nicely, and with a Belt Mountain base pin are pretty easy to load.

So I hear……..

I have 2 conversions

Prefer to shoot my LC in my FA 83

Probably should sell the conversion cylinders

Definitely considering a base pin conversion on the 50.
I may make my own, plenty of stock kicking around the shop

I hate you.

Love your ROA collection! I have only one. Wish I would have bought a stainless version when they were still making them.
