This thread is about elk shooting asses.

It was an honest inquiry. I promise.

Yes. dropped him like a pole axe. But he started shaking his head a few minutes later, then stood up and presented a standing heart shot.

Had a fellow shoot an Axis bout halfway between antler base an eyeguard(brow tine). Dropped him in trax, out cold. 15 mins later he woke up an hauled ass.Never to be found. I ran across him this past summer and after a week or so of watching him decided to take him out. The skull plate was literally cracked around the base of antlers and could be moved around enough to see inside the skull. I assume that deer had a rough few months and was glad to put him out of misery

I thought I shot one in the antler once but it was actually a solid high left shoulder neck glancing kill shot.
Right where I was aiming. Some pretty bad azz scheit.

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Never shot at an elk, but in 2000 i lunged a decent buck with a 12 gauge slug. As he ran off I sent another slug and took off his right antler right at the brow tine.

Seen it happen a couple years ago. The elk dropped like he’d been hit with a sledgehammer. After about 4 minutes he started shaking his head, a minute later he was standing, and 15 seconds later he gone.

Some bad decisions were made that day.

I’ve picked up a few sheds over the years with what looked like 22 holes in them. Always wondered if someone was trying to shoot them off their heads.

Thanks for that!

That aside, my brother clipped the antler clean off a whitetail buck just above the skull with a 12 gauge slug once and split his skull plate between his antlers and killed him stone dead. Never cut a hair.

I asked him what the hell he was aiming for and he said his other antler.

True story.

Funny man.

I was videoing a bull on a hunt that my friend and his dad had tags for. It was decided the dad had dibs, but my friend was going to be ready for a backup shot if necessary. The dad made a fatal hit and my friend knocked it right in the antler anyway. Bull was down for the count. We still give my friend a hard time over it 😆
