Got an email from a buddy saying, hey did you see that Remington is getting into AR's? Didn't know that! Anyone know the scoop?

Yep, they have some info on the web, didn't want to sign up for the newsletter to read more.

Seems I "heard" they were being built by Bushmaster, but not confirmed it anywhere.

J

Edit...I actually think I read that the company that bought Remmy also owns Bushmaster, so I assume that BM will make them.

"Modular Repeating Rifles", eh? Funny.

Well, it can't hurt the ol' cause of mainstreaming the AR platform ,right? There's guys who will buy one now because it's a Remington, and in a few years they too will be hoarding stripped lowers.

On a political level I can't see it hurting either. hopefully they are just AR's and not modified in some way to prevent regular AR mags or something stupid like that.

Wonder what Zumbo thinks of THIS?

Now why would someone buy a rifle just because of a name stamped on it? I know one I would NOT buy due to the RU name... but I thought we all bought what we needed and what worked best... I lost brand loyalty long ago...

Oh, they will though. It will legitimize the platform in some folk's eyes. Not saying that's right, but I do think it's "so".

What it says to me is that Remington and Smith and Wesson do not see a ban coming in the near future.

Yeah- and/or they are increasing the political "weight" that banners would have to push against. The inertia.

I love it. It's all good.

Byron South designed this gun and he has a big review over on Predatormasters for those interested. He has a big field review as well....

S&W is trying to make themselves immune to another gun ban.

S&W has been steadily positioning itself to a police business, since the private sector dumped them after they cut a deal with Clinton and Butch Reno. They never regained all that lost civilian customer base.

You couldn't sell enough simi auto S&W AR's to the police a year to cover costs. Agencies tend to buy long guns once every 5 to 10 years. With the Feds giving out surplus M-14's it cuts the market even more.

I agree, BUT if looking at the bigger picture of the "average shooter," there's a fair amount of brand loyalty out there (ever talked to a NASCAR fan?), and I think the parent company who's name escapes me, who owns both Remington and Bushmaster has a great idea my marketing a Remington AR15. Adding a camo skin to it helps promote the hunting use of the AR15 and break down the Black Rifle stigma.

Product quality is more important to some while a brand or logo is to others. In todays competitive market, any gimic that lets you grab a piece of the pie is a smart move IMO. Would I buy an AR15 from Big Green? Probably not, unless it was smokin' sale on a low mileage used one, since it's still basically a Bushmaster. Am I glad that Remington may be drawing more guys off the couch and into gunstores? You bet!

Do you not think that has something to do with Bushmaster and Remington being owned by the same parent company,
"Cerbeus and RACI Holding INC".

Nothing more than a dipped/camo'ed Bushmaster with a Remington stamp!
Kinda like the Remington Model 798 and 799 bolt actions from Serbia.

I wonder if the "legitimizing" of the AR is a direct response to the Zumbo fiasco.
Remington saw that the "AR crowd" was vocal and numerous. Lets face it, Bolt rifle sales are not shooting up the way AR base rifles are. Every body is in on the act now.
18 year olds are building and dressing up AR's the way a generation back it was Mustangs and Cameros.

Zumbo ran his mouth on a pretty obscure blog, and the roof fell in. Hundreds of comments, hundreds of calls, Emails, letters, attention paid on hundreds of forums on the net.

A firearms company would be crazy not to notice all those potential customers.

Oh I"ll chime back in, it can't be bad, its really all good.

But I just don't like it that most folks are ignorant enough to buy things not by quality but by name, regardless the quality...

As I said, its never bad to get more out on the market and in the hands of voters though!

Bottom line is always money. As long as quality is not sacraficed its all good, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to build an AR. In fact saying someone "designed" a particular one makes me chuckle a bit.... Guess I"ve done more than my fair share of "design" work on the AR platforms over the years then...

Yeahhhh, I was letting that go, but unless his name was Stoner he designed the AR like graffiti taggers design buildings.
