I didn't know where else to post this so here goes. Deer were munching on my landscaping last winter so I took to getting out my air rifle and popping them in the ass when seen in daylight hours. They would kick and then run maybe 100 ft and stop, it was kind of funny. Then I hit a large doe square in the rib cage and it dropped to the ground like it was my .30-06. It could never stand up and after about 3 hours I had to put it out of its misery with a ball bat. I'm baffled as to how a .177 pellet at about 50 feet could paralyze the hindquarters of a big, mature doe. Was it nerve damage?

Nerve damage from hitting it “square in the rib cage”?
You probably slipped the pellet between the ribs into the lungs. It felt sick from the lung(s) bleeding.
I’d put the pellet gun away. Try a slingshot and use hard candies.

The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!

Why would you shoot a deer with a pellet gun? Have someone shoot you in the ribs with a pellet gun and see how it feels.

It's bad enough about the air rifle, but I'm still trying to figure out the whole baseball bat thing. Why not just shoot it in the head with a real gun?
Rule #1 - Never shoot at something that you don't want to kill.
Rule #2 - If you do something really stupid and ILLEGAL, never admit it on the internet. (SSS)

I don’t think I would have posted that question on here. X2 Baseball Bat??? WTF! No kidding! If not a firearm, why not a knife? And why wait three hours to bash her skull in? Aside from ethics or legality, some of that sounds, essentially, INSANE.
