Hi I picked up a ruger made in 1963, it came with see thru mounts, I bought a set of Weaver mounts for the Deerfield 44 auto, they don't look right the holes line up but the front mount is taller than the rear mount. Any help would be appreciated as I know little about them.

Does the front one go on the barrel?

The front mount should attach to the barrel. It will be thicker than the rear mount

The Deerfield is a different rifle altogether, that has integral bases on the receiver. Your rifle will need the proper base and matching rings like Weaver.

According to this chart, you need a #68 (front) and #47 (rear) Weaver base, plus compatible rings of course.

See for yourself:

You can get a rail off eBay .
I got one of them and while the screw holes align it needs a shim under the barrel end of the mount.
