Since most of the posts are pretty deep and controversial just putting this one out. My daughters both had 22's to shoot at a young age but the youngest came up with gluing paint balls to shoot on a chunk of cardboard

Be fun for them to see some reaction to a direct hit.

Yep, but we have good 22 rifles. The bad thing about goofballs is chasing them

We partially inflated balloons and taped them to a sheet of plywood. 22s are fun , no matter what I'm shooting at the range I always have a couple 22s

Foam practice golf balls and pellet guns. Mark a finish line at 30 -40 yards. Start shooting at 5 yards. First one across the finish line wins. It's a good lesson in learning hold over, or under depending on zero.

.22 rifles or handguns. You can't beat it for fun per dollar. We like the rimfire shooting trees. Great competition with friends and grandkids.

Nostalgia is always bitter. That's my excuse! I do round that corner with a smile occasionally though. Ride out in the country so excited. Me an my brother splitting a box of shorts, back and forth. JC Higgins single shot you had to cock with all your might pulling on a knob. Pop was no coach and we were pathetic. 22's are great.

Rout a thin line in a 2x4. Stand up Ritz crackers.

Shoot at distance.

I used to hot glue necco wafers to the target paper. Cheap and easy reactive targets.

Drill holes in a 2x4 to stand golf tees, holding paint balls

Shooting paint balls is tough since you don't have a backer to show where you missed your last shot.

It's a good target for air rifles too.

These things are a hoot! We shot two of them to death. The dueling tree at 50 yds and each has a golf ball at the 25 yd line. The winner on the tree then has to drive his golf ball to the 100 yard berm before the other shooter can shoot the tree back to reset. A good bit of random luck/bad luck comes into play when your stinking golf ball goes in a crevice or behind a little clump of grass. Good times and a noticeable depletion of the .22 supply.

A version for the archers - Nerf archery. Get a Nerf soccer ball as it's about the same size as a deer's vitals. Get a 3' rope, use a wire to thread it through the ball, and tie it off with a large washer. With you a good swing and the right bounce, you might get it to fly 40 or 50 yards. Shoot it from where you stand. If you can't see it, stalk it. If you hit it, it will do a crazy bounce, absorbing the energy so the arrow is trapped in the ball. If you miss, too bad, so sad. If you use field points, a ball will last a lot of shots.

Guess we are crappy shooters.
We like claybirds, only shoot offhand once they got to shooting.
Did allow cheating on a post for awhile.
50 yards.

I like to shoot them at 100,
by then wind and gun/ammo accuracy becomes an issue.

Was enlightening when we took efforts to test ammo at 50 yards.
Suddenly realized past 100 yard shooting had meant little.
There were hits and misses caused by the equipment. That kills the fun!
